Worth a go.
-

havent they just freed up $500k?

What a mess , I feel sorry for the die hard league people in NZ , they deserve better ,

I will always support the kiwis , but living in Melb , I follow the Storm at club level,

Warriors are my second team and always hope they go well for NZs sake , but man , always seems like there is more pain than pleasure , some clubs are cursed
-

Remember, there are two cursed clubs right now - Warriors and Parramatta. Norman to face the courts on drugs charges:

Cappy is gone as coach, that much I know. Doyle didn't hire him so therefore Doyle doesn't have to show him any loyalty. This current crisis does give Doyle plenty of time to find and set his coach up for 2017. It might be Ivan Cleary but Doyle has a few months to prepare. Cappy could quit on his own, and that is in play, but he seems to be determined to be captain of the Titanic.

Leuluai, Vatuvei, Hoffman, Robson will all find themselves being pushed out the door if the season continues this way. Doyle will want to free up cap-room (like he has with Hurrell) and kicking out a Hoffman or Vatuvei will definitely shake things up in the locker-room.

Warriors lack leadership across the squad right now. When Cleary was coach, the last time we had a decent coach, he had Steve Price, Ruben Wiki, Michael Luck, and Brent Tate to provide positive leadership in the locker-room. Hoffman, Mannering, Luke and Lillyman don't have that same feel.

There aren't many players on the free agent market right now who fit a Price/Wiki role, although Greg Eastwood would be a close fit. Should even contemplate the return of Elijah Taylor (at the right price).
-

The lurker reckons its Maguire from Souths. Apparently the players are sick of him cos he works them too hard

Sounds perfect to me, sign him up -

I'll put in a plug for Kata doing well this season. He has the right attitude and shows signs he can improve. Hurrell never put the work in even though he had a lot of potential.

Happy to see Hurrell go and it sounds like Manu is next, hope things work out well for both. Maybe Manu just needs a change of scene to get his mojo back, but I think it's 50/50 at best in terms of Konrad making a genuine go of it in the NRL.

Like your thinking Sneak - hopefully Doyle builds on this and goes for a clean sweep.
-
Hoffman is better than Mannering, and Simon won't be on small coin, rissole him
-
And Cleary was half decent, I never rated him as highly as you did Sneak

May not be a Wayne Bennett, Des Hasler or Craig Bellamy, but he did alright with the stock he had. At least he taught them how to defend.
-

If they're keeping Cappy around to the end of the season because they've lined up Bellamy or Bennett then I wouldn't have an issue because those guys likely could come in pick up the wreckage of an organisation and rebuild it. But if they've lined up Cleary or a Maguire or someone of that level then the club is going to be in tatters by the time they come in.

Anyway, as I said earlier, they tried it the other way at the end of last year when they didn't sack Cappy - it didn't work. It's almost like they banked on Luke and RTS to just make the difference and SJ would always play like he did in last years ANZAC test.

Some bloke (from another forum) who was there actually thought it shut down the discussion and that tough questions weren't really asked of the organisation.

Imagine if I was there, Shontayne Hape wouldn't have come near me with the microphone.
-

The organisation is in tatters now.

I think what i would like to see happen is the coach go, an interim brought in, and a long-term replacement identified and hired ASAP. I would also fire a couple of very senior players not seen to be pulling their weight (Manu is too old to be an effective firing, he would likely have been cut at the end of the year anyway, and Hurrell was too fringe) as a statement of intent. Play some kids for the year, take the medicine with an eye to building a team long term. And get rid of anyone who has been hurt too often as well. It's time for some effective list management. Anyone who grumbles, or tries to influence the decision gets cut as well.

I wouldn't mind a bit of transparency in the whole process as well, so public expectation can be managed.
