He hardly covered himself in glory at Penrith though.
 
In retrospect the Cleary firing was a poorly thought out one. Oft forgotten that the decision was made before that run to the grand final when things were looking bleak mid-season and before he realised what we all saw in Johnson.
 
You do have to remember at the time the Warriors were on a multi year run of absolutely abysmal finals performances. Regularly losing as favourites, and getting blown out far too regularly. The 2011 run was the exception - but by then the decision was made. Those are things that are very easy to put on coaching and preparation.
 
In hindsight we made the cardinal sin of firing coaches. Only ditch them if you have a better option. There are better coaches than Cleary out there, but there weren't at the time.
 
I will put my hand up though and say I felt pretty comfortable with the Cleary firing and Bluey appointment after the first half of the 2011 grand final (better the devil you don't know perhaps?). That performance was the perfect example for me why a premiership under Cleary was pretty unlikely. 2012 would be a write off anyway with Maloney packing a sad and breaking up what was a premiership winning combo IMO.

It's interesting where the game has changed. That tackle by Tallis would have been penalised because he lifted the legs. To O'Connor's credit he took those punches and was still on his feet to give Tallis a blood nose.

Three or four free punches to the face and still on his feet able to dish it back. Tallis punches like a girl. Good thing he played league.

He's Fijian and an alright winger (but hardly a great outside back compared to others) so he'll be in the Wallabies this year.

He is good , one on one in the top half dozen NRL wingers , steps off both feet and strong 
 
But not sure how he will go in Union , although he does come from a fijian rugby union background

Should have won that game but again dum-dum plays cost us again for the billionth time.
 
Some thoughts:
 
- Warriors are the master of the dum-dum plays. Shaun Johnson offloading on his goal line, Isaac Luke shoving a Penrith player over after Tevaga made a good tackle.... just dum-dum plays.
- Shaun Johnson was a dum-dum when it came to kicking with the gale force at his back. Sheesh.
- Solomone Kata has proven me wrong. Well, not on the passing thing....I'm still right about that. But he has been in fine form for a few weeks now. His try was similar to a Barry Sanders touchdown run. Awesome stuff.
- Blake Ayshford too. Solid defender and is scoring good tries (5 for the season). Konrad Hurrell is just not good enough to replace either right now.
- Tui Lolohea was not 100% percent tonight so what was the point in playing him? And what was the point of Matt Allwood on the bench when the team needed another big body against the big Penrith pack?
- Jazz Tevaga is the type of player the Warriors need. Heart, mongrel and fitness freak all in one. His ability to cover hooker/backrow is important to the team.
- Bryce Cartwright and Isaah Yeo are my bolters for the NSW Origin side. Get em in there.

Just turned on the last five minutes to find Cronulla beating Newcastle 62 - 0 (!!) and the Newcastle fullback in tears at the end of it. Not a scoreline that normally turns up in th NRL!
