we've instantly identified the problem we will never sold
in trying to have "no losers" we won't have many winners either
Combining unions will not work. Game sharing, branding, it will all get muddled.
Places are going to have to lose.
You're talking about winning and losing and then start blathering about having teams based on population - the ultimate in rewarding participation!!!
Let's reward the most successful unions. Then the only question is whether Ta$man gets two teams...
You want to have two teams who can't win the Ranfurly Shield?

I don't see this being resolved any time soon.
Between this guy and Marinos, ARU are being run by absolute dickheads. Do they really think they can do better as the 3rd best oval ball code in Oz? They couldn't get a domestic comp to work before, I don't see its any different now

Absolute fucktard
-
And yet he's right. NZRU have been shit to deal with and the idea of a domestic comp is worth consideration - particularly because the fans want it.
I don't really get why he's doing it via the media, though. Does seem childish/antagonistic.
All in all - we are in better shape shape now that when he took over so he can't all be bluster.
-
Can we expect an article tomorrow or the next day where an administrator from MP and/or Drua is forced into a corner to “pick a side”, because either it’s a shrewd move by RA to mention them or an incredible overreach.
-
@ACT-Crusader Drua are fucked if there's a split. Australian government have been providing them with funding but I'm pretty sure NZRU hold their 'licence' - although not sure what that would be worth anyway.

Yeah, from the outside in it does look like you are correct.
Although I can't see a domestic comp being a real money spinner.
SA teams getting much the same response here (UK) as they did in NZ / Oz. Expats involved, everybody else ... meh.

It’s about control - control of decision making, control of investment, control of whatever money is made. I don’t think AR will mind losing money in a domestic comp to start out if they know that is where future money is going and not that plus some Super rugby.

He's right though. We tried to shaft them by directly approaching Super sides we wanted to join us. That's not partner behaviour and it's disgraceful the Board allowed it to happen.
He says this
Why are they so annoyed at us exercising our right to explore our options when they forcibly kicked out South Africa and Argentina from Super Rugby for good?” McLennan said. “South Africa leaving SANZAAR will have a far more devastating impact on rugby in our part of the world.”and he has a point. Although I don't think we kicked SA out - but losing them is a big headache for us in the medium term.

Didn't Covid19 force our hand? Until travel restrictions were lifted I don't see NZ or Australia had any option but to cut down their competitions. Whether SA want to come back to SR when things normalise is another story

Mate licence means that NZR guarantee them financially, if they go broke etc. Also probably need to balance the 1.8 mill they got off Aus govt (that comes from a fund that finshes next year) with NZR pay them tv money. I don't mind RA looking at what is best fro them, just don't like this shit in paper, and making remarks like we may leave as it stuffs up everyone's planning for future, if they doing , just say we going!
I will also add the Roger Clark from Highlanders should also shut up, -

SA have always wanted to play in Europe with the great timezones and the huge money. I don't think it'll ever happen though - have outlined reasons before, but I can't see the upside for Europe, and the seaons are big (going from midwinter Scotland to midsummer Durban), wiht a 10 hour plane ride.

No way they join the 6N. But aren't they playing against NH club sides right now?

they are - in the Tier 2 comp that is pleased for some cash. NH posters will be able to provide more information I'm sure
6N is such a cash cow, and I can't see them inviting in people to potentially win it (or the Heineken Cup for that matter).
