@chchfanatic Yeah, I get where you're coming from, but I do see more upside to his game than your current 7s in the Crusaders starting lineup (not saying that he is better than them yet but I think he will end up being better than them). Can't comment on the younger brigade as I haven't seen enough of them.
In regards to him being German, well, he has had almost 2 full seasons in the Ta$man 23 and was part of their title winning side last season, so I wouldn't say that his nationality has a lot to do with his profile, although I do see the angle you are coming from with that one haha.
Think you will find Corey Kellow will be a much better 7 than Segner in the future.
Time will tell on Segner but I don't think he is a SR player by a long way as yet.edit. Kellow also is a year younger than Segner.

Agreed. For me, Kellow looked like the best loose forward in the Crusaders U20 team this year.

Corey Kellow
Another Auckland boy. Loose forward factory.
We pinch some you pinch some the merry go round continues.

@chris He may well be, I never disputed that at all.
I just think the Segner signing is getting played down a bit when personally, I think it could be a good investment for the Blues. As @chchfanatic alluded to, the Crusaders couldn't match the offer and have plenty of 7s coming through so it may not be a huge loss for them, but it could still prove to be a very good signing for the Blues going forward. We've produced a lot of good loosies ourselves and our recruitment of late has been very very good so yeah, I don't see why we can't get the best out of Segner.

@chchfanatic are u saying Luke Romano signing for blues ,think kata might b to

@bovidae hold turn into a top 7 I’m thinking he has time to learn from the best in Papalii and has good size
I think he will be a 7 too. Segner is a similar height to Papalii and will continue to add some weight.

@george33 Romano has signed with blues as crusaders didn’t offer him a deal. He’s done to be fair. Should retire , been a great servant.
Good fit with the Blues missing Pat T. He won't win us games, but he shouldn't lose us too many either, and the experience will be gold in a young squad. One of his key KPI should be how good the other locks get working with him

Kata has signed with Moana PacificaMade that a bit clearer. He's been great at NPC level. I'm also not sure I entirely agree with you. I'd say Romano will still be good as a reserve in SR or starting against the likes of the Rebels, Force ...

@stargazer haha fair. Done at super rugby with the crusaders. Whitelock, Barrett , strange , dunshea and Zach Gallagher. Not much room left.

@nzzp A very good addition to our side in a position we're very light in tbh. He's also showed in the NPC that he has something to offer, smacking the young players around and getting through a ton of work. Canterbury would be lost without him.
I'm sure he won't play 80 mins every week, but I see no reason why he can't get a starting spot for us next season.
-
@nogusta heard these lads had been signed by the Blues but was not sure if they were full contracts , so thanks for posting ..
With 2 loose forward positions to fill and with Hunt having retired , I wonder
If the final 2 spots are Adrian Choat & Taine Plumetree. -
@chchfanatic Do you think that if the Crusaders had lost Whitelock, Barrett and Dunshea from last season and were left with Strange and a 20 year old that they would've asked Romano to go around one more season to help grow the younger locks? That's where the Blues are at now losing 3 top locks for this season so I can see the logic of picking Romano. He seems the sort that will give all he can give to the team on and off the field.
