We have a full coaching team.
Very protective of their own players, are Hurricanes fans. But, very grabby for other team's players!
Come on mate, in terms of player grabbing, we aren't even in the top 2!!!
At one point all 4 of the SR tens playing on the weekend were from Canes regions, I think!
If you are including Fletcher Smith, I think he was a Mooloo first? But otherwise I agree, we have exported more players than we have taken away
I don;t remember exactly, I just commented to a mate at the time.
-
@southernmann lol, we've exported a hell of alot more players than we've brought in over the years. Infact I think I've been quite upfront about the Canes not pushing hard enough in regards to bringing outside players in. We seem to lose alot of good players without getting too much in return.
In the case of PUJ, we aren't being protective, it just wouldn't make too much sense to get rid of an All Black centre when we've just lost one to France. On the other hand if he decides tomorrow that he wants to be a Highlander and form a partnership with his brother, I certainly wouldn't blame him. I would blame our coach for only playing him sporadically last year.

A Josh Ioane for Peter Umaga-Jensen trade?
Yeah. Nah
Have you gone full Canes4life and would prefer to stick with teenage Wellingtonians and fat bum Bachop at 10?
It's not like Umaga-Jensen gets a run for the Canes.
@Nepia Aye? When have a said I preferred JGB? Ruben Love is the future so why wouldn’t I back him. Strange comment.
A PUJ for Josh Ioane trade would be stupid. We’ve just lost Laumape, why would you get rid of a player who can slot in at both 12/13.
Your commenting like Josh Ioane has set the house on fire for the last two seasons. The guys isn’t even the number 1 option at the Landers. 😂
That's a bit premature, he probably could, especially on a Friday night..

Josh Ioane has been decidedly poor for at least two years now at all levels. Is he good enough to play Super Rugby?
I would not want to comment, seeing as how I am a Blues supporter (and I haven't finished the flashing on this glass house)...
-
Precious lot you Hurricanes fans.
Say one thing about nabbing players and a riot starts.
All I'll say is that J Ioane seems to be under contact for next year at the Highlanders. There's been chat the Hurricanes want him. I doubt the Highlanders will just freely wave him away. Swapping him for another one test All Black, seems not a bad option.
-
@southernmann maybe don't make statements that aren't backed up by facts. I'm sure you would get the same response from other Ferners if you made blind statements about their teams aswell.
Has this actually been mentioned in the media or is this just assumptions made across the forum?
Swapping him would be a worse move for us IMO because of the gap it would leave in our centres. Losing Laumape and PUJ in one off season would be a big hole to fill. In Ruben Love, I think we have someone that equals Ioane even at his raw age and has the potential to be better.
-
I don't think I made anything up. I simply said, you lot are like kids at a lolly scramble. Happy to nab others, but don't want to share yours. For example, two one test All Blacks who can't start for their respective franchises.
I just threw it in the idea in the air after the leading Instagram post. You lot have been talking about getting Ioane as a 10. He is under contract. PUJ puts a leading post up. I connected the dots.
To be honest, I really enjoy winding Hurricanes fans up. I live in Wellington (sadly as a bureaucrat, it is my only option). Really enjoyed that the Canes were the only NZ team to not make a final.
I will certainly say that Manawatu, HB, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and Kapiti are great rugby breeding grounds. The city, not so much! So, of course there is a lot of talent coming through from the Hurricanes catchment.
-
@southernmann it's called business, if we can get Ioane without losing PUJ that would be the best outcome for the Canes. To be honest I don't want Ioane, as a main culprit in a few late night incidents over the last year suggests he probably isn't the best guy to sign in regards to team culture anyway.
This seems like a very odd post, and you wonder why people on here respond the way they do. You've basically said you enjoy winding Hurricane fans up, you're not a fan of the city, and you really enjoyed the Canes not making the final this year. You really are on a roll.
In Lower Hutt, Hutt Valley, Porirua and Kapiti you've pretty much described the Wellington region - so not sure what you're getting at. Wellington city is only a small part of Wellington.
-
@Chris believes the Hurricanes have re-signed Cam Roigard for 2022. If true, that's a great pick up. Roigard and Love look to be the next long term halves combination for the Canes (unless someone exceptional comes along). Even at their raw ages, they showed glimpses of real maturity when they got opportunities with the Canes last year. Great signs ahead.
-
@canes4life Totally agree but very out of character for the current coaching group to make smart decisions.
-
@machpants the lineout for Wellington has been superb with Dom Bird coming in aswell, so not too displeased if Tito comes in.
Being a fellow red head though means he will most likely keep picking JBlackwell.
-
@canes4life I thought the forwards apart from the 2nd half disintegration against Waikato seemed to have a lot more “steel” about them under him.
-
@mikey07 yeah that's what I noticed aswell. We looked really hard to contain with the likes of Aumua, Fidow, Bird etc being really direct on attack. Too bad we had no depth on the bench when injuries struck.
Lockdown has probably saved our bacon a little bit, allowing that big injury toll to re-coup somewhat.

@canes4life Saw Numia has been training the last couple of days off his Instagram, so the longer this goes on definitely the better for us.
