Out muscled by Fiji FFS
You expect their backs to run in a few on flair and brilliance, but not their pack to do the business.
Stereotypically yes.
Look at the size and shape of these fullas and remember they're all playing pro rugby in forward dominated leagues oop norf. They're going to be pretty decent forwards.

Shoulder right into DMac head there
Deserved a second look and a card. Brushed over by officials and broadcaster.

Not many carrying meters from the forwards
Sotutu with 13 & Tuipulotu with 8 are the best. Really low compared to normal
Thinking about this I think we were partialy victims of our own success in attack. We didn't have to set up long periods on attack as we'd score worth our strike moves as soon as we were offered a chance.
On top of that we'd make half breaks and isolate from our support allowing Fiji to attack the breakdown (Not always legally).

Good game so far.
Those Fijian's are big boys and are playing some rally good rugby.
Might need a change of game plan at half time and commit a few more to the ruck as we're struggling to clear the ball quick enough. The backs will do the business as long as they can get quick ball.
Calm and logical posting? This is TSF man

Razor would get a lot more out of all these players. Then a better game plan, and you'd have a well-oiled machine. Maybe not worldbeaters, considering who's in the squad, but much better than this.
A little unfair, I thought Cotter did well...

Nice hands by All Blacks.
WTF is the ref saying "through the middle"? He's climbing over the top of the maul ffs.
I've just remember it's Williams
I don't want to ruin this thread by complaining about the ref, but he shouldn't have a professional fixture.
Not getting into specifics (coz I can't remember them), and agree with @antipodean about not making it a ref rant, but definitely got the opinion I was disagreeing with too many of his calls.
I just don't like the 'vibe' Williams' brings. Something just a bit off with his interpretations and management. Can't quite pin it down.

We just lack physicality. Don't think we took the threat serious enough and took the piss with the starting lineup a bit.
In saying that we should still be playing better than this shit.we’re is a game plan or progression from last year .soft forward effort let’s hope COVID keeps SA out of the RC .
Yeah. Unbeatable.

So ABs always had 60+ on Fiji, another great record for Foster's ABs
Didn't score 60. Sack him.

Two forward passes in a row by Ioane. So if Fiji win, will foster stand down?
Stand down? He should be lynched before he gets a chance.
You'll need a crane to get him up there.
Ah that's right, he's fat too

@kiwimurph said in All Blacks vs Fiji:
That was a lot more fun than last week.
Are we allowed to say that?
It was Fiji. Should have won by 60.

@kev guess the thing is, Dmac is already a lower target, he was low before the guy even lined him up...ideally, for the game next week he doesnt cop a ban because he is a good player, but in reality, I cant see how he doesnt get a break.
Does it meet the RC threshold. It might, but it might be mitigated to yellow by DMac crouching. Unmitigated back up by lack of arms. Either outcome wouldn't surprise.

I don't get the love for PPP, I haven't seen anything of him that screams AB, he doesn't even look that big physically yet people go on about his size.
IMO MSR looks a much better prospect than PPP, but has his past hanging over him. Similarly I don't see him and think AB.
On some of the newer players in the squad, Blackadder looks a quality player, but not as a 7, Jacobson is class.
Christie has taken his chances so far, although had 2 poor moments last night.
I'm neither here nor there on Bridge, he is playing a different role to what we are used to from our 11.
Havili certainly looks made for this level, Tupaea had a good debut last week.
Dalton looks set for a long career, and if Fozzie is unseated, Cane may not walk back into the starting line up.
But what we need is the players like Taylor, Coles, Whitelock, BBBR, Smith, BB, Ardie need to be front and centre leading these guys.
Moody and Ofa will help.

Blackadder was fucking everywhere, it was awesome, but didn't exactly have much of an impact a fair bit of the time - how different would that be with a functioning tight five?
Frizzel was anonymous, Sotutu often ineffective, even Smith seemed to disappear into the mehther.
Blackadder's one of those guys who is always giving 100% - but, from memory, that's probably about the second game he's started in the 7 jersey in three years. In his early days with the Mako, I think he had a few more games there.
I think I'm right though that Foster has mainly picked him as a utility loosie, with Frizell and Akira as 6s; Ardie and Papali'i as 7s; and Jacobson and Sotutu as 8s. With Ardie, Dalton and Sam Cane injured, they could have called up (probably) Billy Harmon as a specialist 7, but more valuable to give Ethan the run. Billy is at best the number 4 openside (he could be behind Christie as well) in the country, so won't be required often.
Shannon didn't do much with ball in hand, but I see according to ESPN that he topped the tackle count (Stat Chat
) - one ahead of Ethan. I guess to give him a bit of a break, it was his first game in 6 weeks. -

I think next week's test will be a big indicator on the coaching team, and hopefully the board are taking notes. They've come out previously and said physicality is a work on this year (again) and not improved it. They've said it's 'great' that the ABs got beasted at the break down, as it gives them something to work on for next week 'we will fix it'. Fiji are at the end of a long, long season and big trip back here, it'll be hard for them to make real gains from another week training. Unlike the ABs, who the only way should be up.
So if there's is not a massive improvement in that area, the coaching team have obviously not got what it takes and need replacement. At least it is another massive nail in a coffin that should have been buried post RWC 19
