@sparky wide service to the community outside the game.
should have been knighted for his punch on the Wales forward at the 87 RWC. One of the genuinely hard men of rugby, and surprisingly small in modern terms.
Edit: just quality
Congratulations
Fantastic rugby player
But in this instance cheap King Hit
Nothing to admire there

@mikethesnow it's not a cheap hit of the guy you punch is wailing into your mate!
-
@mikethesnow and the hit by the Welsh 1?
Both had thier mates back.

I was at that game. Couldn’t see much because it was over the other side of the field and I was only 8. But I remember an older kid yelling out: “It’s a fight. And we won it!”

Fighting aside, that was as clean a punch as you'll see. Diferent era.
Also, Huw Richards being brought around and then sent off is very memorable and super unusual.

He definitely took the opportunity and made it count that’s for sure

This. Don’t throw punches if you don’t want to receive them yourself.

From memory he wasn’t sent off. It’s the first recorded use of the HIA, 10 minutes down the tunnel.

I am delighted at this news - a well deserved honour. I have no doubt he will handle it with dignity and aplomb.
Buck Shelford was one of the very best in my time, played with the greatest All Black - rugby player - I have seen, Sir Michael Jones, and led a pack I admired throughout its stellar dominance. The talent the All Blacks could field at 6, 7 and 8 back then was astonishing.
I have also been impressed with the several interviews and documentaries since, by his passion and candour about his fortunate experiences.
Good on yer Sir Wayne.
