That's 2 ridiculous cricket stories a week into the year

Wonder if life would be immeasurably improved by not having any news media.

Poor old brain gets infiltrated and bombarded by stories and responses of fuckwits, that really have no bearing on anything constructive.
-

Was about to say the same thing. Hundreds of years of British rule for nothing. Appalling. -

Its India (no doubt where the media frenzy began) they have nothing else but to go crazy over anything cricket.

I was thinking of organizing 11 kids from my daughters local kindy and having a game, i reckon i could give that 1009 a pretty good nudge...
-

The modern age with its bat domination suits India to a tee, especially at home. I remember 20 or so years ago Pakistan toured and the two Ws as always dominated but right after that India came and their spearhead Javagal Srinath looked military medium in comparison.....I mean can anyone honestly name a truly world class Indian pace bowler apart from Kapil Dev? ( and even his claim is tenuous compared to others )
-

Zaheer Khan was pretty good for a long time, predominantly bowling on wickets not made for him. He took more than 300 wickets, that's not bad.

I thought of him too but he's hardly up there with the very best is he? Pakistan produced Imran, the two Ws and Shoaib Akhtar who are all far superior to anything India produced but the flip side is they haven't had anywhere near as many class batsmen...... -

There are 7 players from India or Pakistan who have batted in a minimum of 75 innings with an average of over 50. 4 are from Pakistan

There are 25 players from India or Pakistan who have batted in a minimum of 75 innings with an average of over 40. 10 are from Pakistan

There are 11 pace bowlers from India or Pakistan who have taken at least 50 wickets with an average of under 30. 1 (Kapil) is from India - and he has the worst average

There are 20 pace bowlers from India or Pakistan who have taken at least 50 wickets with an average of under 35. 5 (Kapil, Srinath, Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan, Karsan Ghavri) are from India
-

Well those stats back up my bowling argument but surprised at the batting one, off the top of my head the Indian batsmen would be Gavaskar, Tendulkar and Dravid for India and Miandad.....and......shit can't guess the other three Pakistanis... -

off the top of my head, Younis Khan and Mohammed Yousef would be in there, and what about fat old Inzie?

Nope, Mr spud head only managed 49.60.

Just read a link on Joe Root, in England's entire history only seven blokes have averaged over 50........Shit I woulda thought it'd be more than that.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/959395.html

Him, KW and Steve Smith also prove that today's generation of outstanding batsmen all look 15 years old....(despite Williamsons beard) -

Now you've made me use Cricinfo

And it tells me the following Pakistani bat's man have played more than 75 innings and average more than 50

Younis Khan - 53.94

Javed Miandad - 52.57

Mohammade Yousef - 52.29

Inzamam-ul-Haq - 50.16

eat it
-

on England, i assume you mean "... and played more than 50 test innings"

The number isn't high, but the names are some of the greatest in test history.

They also have an awful lot in the very late 40s

It doesn't surprise me that much actually. England weren't much chop for a long time in the batting era, and even then they didn't have stand-out test batsmen, but a lot of very good guys who are in the really late 40s.

Australia, who fucking dominated much of the "batting" era, only have 9 guys to play 50 innings and average over 50, and 2 are still playing.
-
I see what's happened. For Pakistan, yes you are right about lard boy.....

But one shit match for ICC brought the average below 50......

WI: Lara, Sobers, Richards, Worrall, Weekes, Walcott, Chanderpaul, Headley

Zimbabwe: Flower

SL: Sangakara
