NZ teams 5, Aussie teams 0. How long until the one of the Aussie teams win on these?

    @bones
CBA watching a replay because we won but on first watch I don't think he was impeding anyone. Hopefully someone can pull up a screenshot with perspective lines or a slow mo gif.

We'll never know what him and his illegal play impacted. I mean, who cares if the pass goes forward if there's no defenders in sight, right? 😁 Does a defender being offside not matter if the player he's marking drops it?

Ref was riding the Chiefs hard. Softest red card in history for Jacobson.

I'm really wondering what people are watching if that's the softest they've seen...

It was a soft red but a pretty easy yellow and so if two yellows make a red...

Chiefs were fuggin lucky not to come second. Hard watch this morning.

What's this talk about Chiefs not making the final because they didn't get a bonus point? Am I missing something or are Chief fans being negative Nellie's again?

3 NZ teams could end up with 5 wins, then it is down to bonus points. In reality, I think it is unlikely. The Reds and the Brumbies should win a couple of games each and I could see one of the other Aussie teams nicking a win here or there.

@hydro11 yeah I suspected that was the case. Too early to be writing the Chiefs off I reckon.

Massive difference in reffing styles across the Ta$man if this team of 4 was anything to go by.
1st YC comes out of thin air and was simply an alpha male attempt from the ref to show control. Can't say it was 'wrong' just that if he was in charge of the Saders/Brumbies game it would have been 12 vs 13 after 20 minutes.
Warnings are a tool to stop deliberate slipping of standards in defending your line. One penalty offence will often lead to another under advantage just because the ref suddenly has a perception bias and is looking for the attack to get the advantage he is offering. When nothing is cynical or foul play give them a chance to get it right before waving cards.

The other huge difference was the ref and TMO relationship. TMO seemed to be running the game in tandem giving constant commentary and advice. At least the ref had the balls to over rule him a couple of times but it led to some rather perplexing situations especially the maul YC where the TMO quickly identified a culprit from something nobody else could see or find.

Only call I had a real problem with that I could finger as plainly wrong was the non PT for the slap down. You can't rule it out just because 'there was cover coming'. It has to be 'there was cover coming in an effective position to probably stop that try'. The cover would have got there to attempt a tackle but hardly a certain or likely thing that they would have prevented the try. I betcha if that played out (removing the slap down) there would have been a 90% chance of a score.

Scoring a try negates the infringements. Great rules.

I have only just read back in the thread. Staying awake was hard enough last night let alone trying to read my phone at the same time.

This was just bizarre. Ref says he sees a grounding so on field decision try but if the TMO finds reason to cancel it he will go PT and YC. TMO says he can't see anything so it is just a try. WTF?
Ref had two reasons to award a try. One is 5 points and further out, one is PT auto 7 points plus a YC to the Force.
Somehow the team infringed against ends up worse off because the TMO can't see whether the second try was scored or not.
Ref should have gone for on field no try then the TMO has to actually see it clearly.
Surely first offence is the important thing here?

I'll read through the match thread soon but my thoughts on the ref and TMO.

@crucial I agree that Kearney wasn't in a position to stop a try by Tiatia so that was a cop-out by the TMO.

The TMO had two different rules for penalty tries and YCs for each team. If Jacobson gets a YC and the Chiefs concede a PT then so should the Force and Anstee, who wasn't part of the maul and blatantly comes in from the side to make a tackle. The evidence that Harris grounded the ball was inconclusive but it should have been 7 pts for a PT. Somehow it was neither.

I also thought that the other YC for Jacobson was BS. The reverse camera angle shows he did roll West-East and wasn't slowing the ball down. Put that down to Murphy and an incompetent TMO.

I'll add that Justin Harrison is such a muppet as a commentator.

That said, the Chiefs' discipline was poor and McMillan made some bad selection decisions. Tiatia had one of those games where he was determined to offload in every tackle. Apikotoa has been a liability in the scrum in 2 consecutive games now. If Mafileo was fit he should have played. If Kahui didn't score Apikotoa probably gets a YC for repeated infringements.

It was a really good post until you jumped the shark. 😂

There's no way that was a probable try.

@bovidae so Tiatia having a poor game and making handling errors will still definitely score that try huh? He's still got to catch the ball, beat Kearney hands down and then place it.

That's a lot more unlikely than it is likely and certainly not probable.

@bones Tiatia's problem wasn't catching the ball it was his passing once he had it. I'm confident he wouldn't have needed to pass there. 🙂

If Kearney was directly in front of him defending then no problem but he was running across the field and Tiatia had plenty of space to run to the corner flag.

@bovidae I think the angle Kearney had made it even easier for him to defend, he was on the move and shutting down the space on the angle, not squared up and prone to footwork. It's that easy to reason it's most likely not a try, which makes it definitely not probable.

bit like last week a lot of these calls are a 50/50 in that some weeks they go your way and next week they dont.
tiatia for mine wasnt a pt but both of Jacobsons cards and albs could have gone either way, in fact in jacobsons first card carnt see what he was penalized for.

Being the only jersey number the TMO could see I think.
