I would have thought that a player with a long time off with injury would need the match time? Maybe he still has a niggle.
I read that CdG visibly tired over the duration of the test so probably not match-fit. Best to let him recover if that is true.
I would select Jamieson too.
Gotcha re CDG. He could be what we need in the WTC. Just that game breaker type. Whether it be golden arm or smashing it out of the park. Fully expecting Southampton to be as spin friendly as they can make it.

I’d almost be tempted to pick Ravindra as our spinner and to bat 7. I don’t see any of our spinners eventually troubling the Indians much, so we may as well have someone who can score some runs at the same time. (Even Raval looked more threatening in Oz with the ball than Satnav.)
Though I do like Ajaz, he always looks so genuinely excited to be playing for the Black Caps.

That was the point I was going to come in and make. The Indians are pros at playing spin and we don't have any that would really trouble them, so I'd rather just go all out seam which is our strength. Don't give them any respite by chucking on a spinner that's not even half as good as they are used to playing on a pitch that won't be overly conducive to spin.

So you think that we will pick a spinner then.

I think Santner was a certainty for "balance". Now he's out I really hope we take another seamer.
-
So did England drop Anderson for his homophobic tweets or what?
-
From Cricinfo - BJ Watling has been ruled out of this Test match with a sore back, that he hasn't recovered from. Tom Blundell will replace him with the gloves.

True, his lack of ability certainly balances the rest of the team

Jeez we are stumbling towards the WTC final

Probably just an abundance of caution.

I will likely be shouted down for heresy, but I don’t think swapping Blundell in for Watling is as big a step down as it once was - at least batting wise.
Blundell showed in Oz that he has the batting chops to be a real asset

Not at all, says a lot for the team that our best ever isn’t available but there is an able replacement. Conway, Young AND Blundell are bloody inexperienced though ( but capable )
-
England are batting
Here’s our team….. New Zealand: 1 Tom Latham (captain), 2 Devon Conway, 3 Will Young, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 Tom Blundell (wk), 7 Daryl Mitchell, 8 Neil Wagner, 9 Matt Henry, 10 Ajaz Patel, 11 Trent Boult
No Jamieson or Southee winds me up considerably. I don’t think we have THAT much depth to change the team this much.
-
Timmy is on fire and he's surely good for three tests on the trot.

Complete madness. It’s not like they’ve had a heap of cricket lately.

Tim will be fit as fuck, would handle it piece of piss!

Never in my lifetime have I seen 5 changes outside our pretty much first XI and thought " not too bad, that'll do". Let alone been slightly excited at the chance for a second string spinner, keeper and emerging all rounder.
Strange times, in a good way.
Rossco, I know you've done a lot for NZ cricket and you're down the list on my preferred to quaff beers with, truth is I find you a little strange, but I wish you all the best in leading our batting in Birmingham. I'd delight in your foibles being a reflection of mine and will be forever impressed if you turn on a big one in the rehearsal for our biggest one ever. God's speed to you, you champion.
C'mon boys! We see what you guys are trying to build and how you've embraced all personnel and fostered a real sense of belonging and responsibility on all squad members. It's purely and wholly the right way forward - true progress, if you will.
A living, breathing example of unity and inclusion
Kia kaha boys - give it heaps and let the chips fall where they may!
Love youse all🙂
