Aggers, Vaughan and Ramprakash had articles on the BBC website, can't find Vaughan's now and his was the most OTT - as I said, suggesting that Robinson should be re-educated. Aggers was more reasoned but when stating that it was obvious that Robinson was, at the time of his tweets, a teenager with his own problems, still wanted him hung out to dry. Ramprakash was piling into Boris saying that his comments were "unwelcome". FFS unwelcome to whom? What does that even really mean?

It's all so fake. They know as well as anyone else it's a load of crap, but they are covering their own asses by making sure the woke know they won't tolerate it for a second. They are all fucking spineless.

Chance of refusing to play Pakistan: 0. Total hypocrisy.

I hope this young fellas mental health is ok. The fact he bowled as well as he did in the test knowing full well he was about to be given the chop is pretty damn impressive. If anything all of this has me hoping he has a long and successful career even if he is an Englishman.

Yep, one of these public lynchings is going to end very badly. ECB needs to grow a pair of balls and give their players a bit of support and protection from this crap.

I think all the cancel culture dickwads having a go at this guy ( including mediocre former test batsman Michael Carberry ) should have a long hard look at themselves and realise that by damning him in their self indulgent and woke articles they’re actually doing the very opposite of what they intended. Case in point, me. If it weren’t for all this he’d just be another bloke I’d never heard of ( not being an avid follower of county cricket ) making his debut for his country….but because of this I’m thinking, “fuck, lay off this young fella for mistakes in the past, ( which we’ve all made ) go and show them what you got son!”

For sure. Certainly not getting more sports fans on board I wouldn't think. As I said earlier, I can't even be bothered reading about it. Don't know why anyone would. Just turns me right off but it sounds like everybody is having a crack from what you lot are saying.

Anyway I am looking forward to some actual cricket tonight and all the other bullshit can, hopefully, go away.

Good point, let’s get back on topic.

As brilliant as we are as a team KW not being there leaves a pretty big hole. Does Young slot straight in at three or does he open and Conway go there ? I’d be extremely loath to do this given his debut performance but that might be the way they go.

I'd leave Conway. He made a pretty bloody good job of it. Latham is generally sound. Hopefully they can see off the new ball before Young gets thrown in.

Kane being out is a bit shit but we should have Trent I believe. Hardly apples for apples, but a least a bit of a gain. The batting might look a bit thin overall though. Does this pitch traditionally turn? I didn't think so...

Trent has regressed a bit lately, luckily Southee has improved during the same period so I don’t think it’s too much of an issue.

I’d go with our bloody decent quartet of pacemen personally. Fuck having a spinner.

Likewise. So does CDG get another go? I would, but Mitchel seems pretty capable and more likely to hold up and end with the bat.

Mitchell for me. CDG didn't show enough in his first game back after injury. But if he tears it up at Edgbaston he may clip his ticket

@canefan Tough choice. CDG did well with the ball. Sort of spinners role and gives the other guys a break if he dries up the runs. Not sure Mitchel can do that.

Conversely CDG is great if we want quick runs but Mitchel has far more chance of survival if we need to dig in and that batting lineup does look a bit frail with out Kane, Rossco is a bit out of touch, Young being a newbie. That sort of thing. This is all relative of course because they have been so good.

Yeah not easy. The English comms like the cut of Colin's gib. They reckon he is not disimilar to the sort of bowlers that top the County Cricket stats. And I just don't see Mitch spinning the Indians out on a day 5 pitch

I’d probably go CDGH given we have Watling as the “dig in” guy if needed ( no pressure BJ ).

Possibly harsh on Johns son but that’s how decent the Black Caps are. No room for passengers. I’m not convinced he’s anything more than a batsman who can bowl a bit, kind of a latter day Astle or Styris. We’ve moved on. Neither of those guys would get selected in this current team ( Go on, fight me )

It’ll be interesting to see how Young goes given its fair to say Conway made a better fist of his debut that he did.

This is what Stuff thinks. As I said above, CdG is likely to be spelled after a long time off with injury and a short turn-around between tests.

Black Caps (likely): Tom Latham (captain), Devon Conway, Will Young, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling, Daryl Mitchell, Kyle Jamieson/Tim Southee/Matt Henry, Neil Wagner, Ajaz Patel, Trent Boult.

If he does I’d be thrilled but then given we’re not going to go into a big test without our four main pace bowlers then that automatically lengthens the tail given Jamieson would bat seven, fern fall guy ( when it comes to batting ) Southee at eight and so on.

Patel doesn’t seem much of a batsman…….but then again ( insert any other NZ spinner here ) doesn’t seem much of a spinner so you have to sacrifice something I guess.

I would have thought that a player with a long time off with injury would need the match time? Maybe he still has a niggle.

As for the other / bowlers. I reckon Jamieson gets the nod. One more game for match experience and we will want him for the final. Southee knows what he is doing so a break may not be a bad thing. Henry is a good player but hopefully not needed for WTC as the others are better.

Yep, needs more time in English conditions to acquaint himself.

I read that CdG visibly tired over the duration of the test so probably not match-fit. Best to let him recover if that is true.

    I would select Jamieson too.

To even be having these discussions is such a treat. Good players are going to be left out, rotated, rested. Never in my life did I think that I would say that.

In the past we were lucky to have a couple of competent bowlers, sometimes one great one, that were even fit to walk to the ground. If we had good bowlers they were usually broken and the whole attack was weak.
