Crap joke but thank god he apologised publicly. I was ready to get up in arms and demand he did so on behalf of all offended asians everywhere
You're doing this all wrong. You're meant to now say that his apology didn't go far enough and that he needs to atone for his sins by "listening" and "educating himself", and that if he had any decency at all he'd step aside for a marginalized Japanese person to take his position.

One can only hope. Has anyone approached Dame Susan Devoy for comment yet ?

Didn't he do lots of dumb shit with Funaki the Japanese 9 that was at the highlanders, skits where Funaki was his pet or something?

A lot of Japanese expats I've met have been good "lad" types, who are up for a crude laugh. I wouldn't do that to them on national TV though ...
Also, Wheeler is one of the stupidest sounding, backwards hicks in NZ, so he's in no position to take the piss out of anyone.

On the back of this, is it once again time to roll out a thread on who might actually be able to staff a few footy broadcasts and shows with eloquence, wit and knowledge??
It's a pretty dire situation, with Wheeler there for humour, Karl Tenana there for interviews, Steven Bates providing colour commentary, Ian Jones and Tabai Matson doing the analysis and Riki Lee Swannel yell-shreiking some commentary.

@tim I think she's good enough. Her voice isn't easy on the ear, but that has nothing to do with her commentary itself.
I quite like her.
Far better than Laban for a start.

Is he any different to any other NZ rugby ‘personalities’ though ?
Izzy Dagg was a fine player but I’d rather have my teeth pulled than spend any time with him.
