I think Rangi did that in his first year in the Blues too.
Didn't he not play Akira in the early rounds so he could get his head and fitness right? Don't think you are right.

Eklund has been suspended from all forms of the game for 3 weeks, up to and including 16 April 2021.In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Adam Casselden SC ruled the following:
"Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including submissions from his legal representative, Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the Citing under Law 9.18.
With respect to sanction, the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of 6 weeks due to the World Rugby instructions that dictate any incident of foul play involving contact with the head must start at a mid-range level. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the fact the Player has pleaded guilty at the first available opportunity, the Foul Play Review Committee reduced the suspension to 3 weeks. The Player was entitled to a full 50% reduction due to no prior offences on his record.
This means a sanction of 3 weeks. This includes the following fixtures:- Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 5 Chiefs v Blues 27 March 2021
- Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 6 Blues v Hurricanes 3 April 2021
- Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 7 – Bye –
- Super Rugby Aotearoa Round 8 Highlanders v Blues 16 April 2021
The Blues have a scheduled bye in Round 7 which does not count as a week for sanctioning purposes. The player would therefore be suspended from all forms of the game up to and including 16 April 2021.”

harmless yes - this time. But you pick someone up and cartwheel them, and the judiciary will take an interest.
I'm a Blues fan, btu that was dumb play from Eklund. Only going to end in a penalty and possible card.

I suplexed my brother through a glass table in my teens (wasnt aiming for the table, but he tried to get away and altered my direction) he was ok, table wasnt, nor was I when my parents got home, red card after the fact!

@nzzp oh it was definitely dumb play, no one is saying it wasn't. No one is saying it has a place in rugby. I'll have to watch it again, but from what I recall there was close to zero danger to Reece just because of the nature of the throw, grabbed him around the waist and tipped didn't he?
All I'm saying is I'll be interested to see what bans come out at less this year. I'm sure it won't be a ban for a crusaders player though 😬

@stargazer agree on both counts , Tuipulotu could have stayed on the ground making much more of the fall ..would that have influenced a card..?.I say yes..Credit to Tuipulotu for just getting on with .

@Steven-Harris I think Williams decided it was better only to penalise Eklund instead of giving him and Reece a YC. Eklund's actions didn't absolve Reece of his.

@steven-harris After Reece's tackle in the air, Patty T didn't land dangerously (hand and foot first on the ground), so it was never going to be a card. The penalty was correct though.

That’s because he had two of his teammates holding him up. It doesn’t change what Reece did and probably highlights the issue of the sanction being attached to the outcome and not the action.

@nepia That's not entirely correct; the action does matter, too. What should also be factored in - my wording was incorrect, it wasn't a tackle in the air (he challenged for the ball in the air) - is that Reece had his eyes on the ball the entire time and had no time to change direction or stop in time to avoid the collision. It wasn't reckless; he just mis-timed/mis-judged it. That's part of the action, not the outcome. So both action and outcome mattered.
For example: if Reece clearly had the intention of preventing Pat T from catching the ball, knowing he was too late or not high enough to catch the ball himself, he would likely have received a card for cynical play, despite Pat T not landing dangerously.

Definitely. To act in such a reckless manner needs to be stamped out of rugby, or else we'll just get people using such a lame excuse to try and mitigate for all sorts of foul play. Players should definitely be aware there are other players on the field.
"I know I elbowed him in the head at the maul sir, but how could I be expected to know his head was right there if I was looking at the ball when I threw my elbow back at head height while he was trying to reach over the maul"
