NBA 2015/16 thread

I was the same, after 3 quarters I stopped following it. Quite shocked to see the result.

All the 'contenders' out east are being proven to be pretenders, except the Cavs
-

I am also pleased the Celtics have shat the bed, as Bill Simmons is a supporter.. and he is a cock.

-
Haha, yeah Simmons grates. I stopped watching and reading his stuff a few years ago. I did like that segment with him a Jalen Rose 'get dem cheques'

I like Isaiah Thomas and coach Brad Stevens, but the Hawks are a good side with Shroeder playing more and more minutes. -

Really? I'm a big fan of Simmons. Enjoy his perspective, though I can see how his style could grate people.

He is a narrative journalist to the highest degree, he decides on a narrative and then just bangs on and on, even when contrary views are raised and even proven. He is really just a click bait troll. Now.. it could be argued most journos are nowadays. But he is worse than most. Simmons continued preaching and willful ignorance around the Harden trade grates.

I quite like Zach Lowe.... who is really tight with Simmons
-

I'm not sure that description is apt, given he no longer writes. And when he did it was long-form, 2k words stuff, so I'm not sure it's exactly 'click bait'.

He does take controversial views though, seemingly for the sake of them. But I don't mind that. I enjoy his podcast, now he's branching out and getting guys like Louis CK in addition to his usual cast of pundits/mates/players.
-

It does not need to be short to be click bait. Rattue and Reason write plenty long enough articles, and they def just write click bait IMO
-

The Rockets are a disgrace.

I have to have a little more faith in OKC. They did well in their series and look very strong heading against the Spurs. Leonard is some kind of awesome though. It'll be a tough series. SA have an outstanding bench of role players and The Big Fundamental saves his best for the playoff. Should be a great series. Im going to stick my neck out and say OKC in 7.

A good hire, hopefully they allow him time to turn things around because he hasn't got a chance of the play-offs for the foreseeable future unless they make a splash in free agency

Well they'll have money now that Kobe's max contract is out of the picture....

KD is a target and with Walton moving could he lure Harrison Barnes and Festus to come as well? -

Westbrook wants to be the franchise. But as good as he is he couldn't carry the Thunder last season, even though he had a huge year. They lost, a lot, even when he was scoring 40+ a night.

He doesn't seem to lift the players around him as well as KD does.
-

The ESPN rumour mill? Isn't it just one guy? I think he is just making shit up, but like a broken clock...

What is clear is that he is basing it on nothing.
-

Why do you think he wants to be a franchise? Nothing I have read or heard from indicates that. Do you have a source?

Everything I have read is about much he loves being with his mate Durant. They get on ludicrously well. And he already sees them as having a franchise.
-
I have read the recent interviews where he says he would rather win than have his own team but i remember a couple seasons ago that he said he had always wanted to play in LA. But I guess I took a logic leap on the "franchise" comment. Players of his calibre on any other team, out side of Okc, GSW, Cavs and probably NO, are always the guys that want the ball for the final shot. The go to player. But ill concede its an assumption.

Despite what seems to be 'selfish' play (he's copped that label), I don't think that carries on into the locker room for Westbrook. He's a team guy from what I've read and he knows just like every superstar in the league, that you cannot win a championship without other stars.

I think KD still takes the majority of clutch situation shots and I don't hear any sulking coming from Westbrook. -

Well all my optimism about OKC.... got ground under a pair of boots... with spurs on.
