@kruse Chur bro.
I won't be paying 40 squid a month for something I can only access the minute it's being broadcast. Finding alternative broadcasts sounds like it will be at least as reliable...
isn't it 35 quid for the season?
"Weekly passes, featuring two live games every weekend, will be available at www.rugbypass.com/live-super-rugby/ for USD 9.99, EUR 7.99 or GBP 6.99, whilst fans can get a season-long pass for USD 49.99, EUR 39.99 or GBP 34.99."

I don't think it's 40 - its the whole season for 40.
I used rugbypass when it first came out, and it was excellent: games live or delayed, and small or long highlight packages. Their geoblocking became much much better though, so I abandoned it. I'd say I'll buy the 2 games this weekend on Thursday night or even friday morning and see how it goes.
-
I was using it for about 2 years but their geo-blocking got much better and finally I wasn't able to get around it using Nord or Express or other VPN services. It sucks that they didn't pick it up here as I don't think any other service has it (certainly not J-sports, which used to).

really feels like someone has dropped the ball here, europe/uk on just get it sorted last minute with an on line streaming service and japan doesn't at all?
both have expat communities plus theyre own rugby communities, not doing wonders for the "global brand"

@kiwiwomble inevitable really. People whinged and whinged about Sky etc, but the reality was, the alternative was going to be much much worse.
Rights negotiations are now way more complicated, so take longer, and have more chances of not actually getting done. Everyone needs to get more and more streaming options. And background rights mean that the viewing options are not always available (you can put a Kayo app on your Samsung TV, but not your LG, etc etc).
I can't watch Sky Racing on my TV because that is only available on Foxtel. It's fucked.
People like to think giving options is going to grow your potential audience. i think the opposite is true. I sued to watch at least 1 Premier League game a weekend. And a lot of Champions League. Once it went to Optus, i have not watched a single minute. Existing fans will cross because they have to. Casual and new fans will decide it is too hard.

@mariner4life my only grumbles about Sky were to do with the model that made you purchase a huge pile of shit that you didn’t want in order to access the stuff that you did.
They still stick to that model where they can. -

They still stick to that model where they can.not saying it was perfect, and i too never watched those other channels. But if that was what allowed them to pay for the rights to stuff
It's a bit OT but, will this breaking up of streaming cause TV rights revenues to unions to actually go down at some point?

The highlight packages were a nice option, but obviously thrown together very very quickly... some were quite shoddy with the editing and/or selection of clips.
I'm managing to get around the geo-blocking - but for a time there, it was a bit of a "fingers crossed" as to whether it would work on a given day. Using PureVPN now - haven't had issues for some time. Other than not being able to cast to ChromeCast... I'm considering getting another router with VPN installed on that - so that the casting would work. -
@majorrage Sky Q is pretty awesome but yeah apart from the odd series on Atlantic or One then there's not a huge amount of Sky content that I'd miss. I'm pretty pissed they don't have the rugby and I don't understand why they pretty much haven't had any cricket with NZ since the world cup.
@Billy-Tell @Kiwiwomble helps if I can reading skilz eh!

Good on you, they have never had rugby (IIRC), I didn't even think of them!
Looks like it'll be about $25 a month too, so I'll give it a go.

RugbyPass now available to subscribers in the UK (wasn't available this morning).
£34.99 a season, £6.99 a week.

To me this seems a colossal fuck up by the RA. Will UK punters be willing to cough up more for super rugby AU after shelling out for Super Rugby NZ?
-
Chromecast isn't working on this (just checked faqs) so it is really only through shit stuff like linking up a laptop.
I'm not one for watching rugby on small screens, it just sucks.
Bummer, I was wavering but that probably confirms I am out and I really wanted to watch this year.
If you are going to take these rights at least make it possible to view them properly!

You should be able to chromecast the tab playing the game on a Chrome browser. Settings/Cast/Tab (assume you are using Chrome here...)

The whole Live game thing is fucked up - the need for multiple accounts and platforms is getting bloody ridiculous.
It's either ego or incompetence - probbly both.

You can Chromecast rugby pass, I did it for 2 years when I didn't have sky. Set VPN to Outer Mongolia (week some small Asian country)and then have every single top pro rugby game on the planet available live, and on demand going back a year. Such a good deal, but I don't have enough time to watch that much rugby!
