World Cup Final match thread

Together with Aura and prime ministers and such I did particularly notice the warmth of that Prince fella's reception of many of the All Blacks as he was handing out gongs and lordships and sailing galleons and vast country estates to the winners.

He spoke longer with them than he did to the Australians and it was obvious he had met and spent time with the All Blacks before. One of your support group girls set aside handshake-curtsey protocol and stole a spontaneous hug and kisses from the young bloke. What a good job he has, eh?
-

Anyway, Wallabies had a great world cup and showed true guts to get back into that match. I have major respect for them, a couple of their players being thugs doesn't detract from the whole group.

Nick, very much this . I get that you're gutted but you've got plenty of reasons to be proud. -

Yeah, that's because Evil Sir Richie slipped Cheating Nigel Owens a fifty to let Cane take the field so the Darkness could finish with 16 players. :fishing:
-

Dammit, a very fair post appears to be deleted so I can't edit my error...requiring = replying.

Sorry NTA, you're a good man and the majority of your team are class. A couple let themselves down today.
-

Great stuff! I'm just delighted for Dan & Ritchie especially. Two fantastic representatives of our fine land. Enjoy the night! (well morning in NZ, he he...)

Just getting rid of Nick trying to derail the thread, I left what you wrote in another posters quote -

Big error from the ABs not to ensure play stopped and Bender came back on. A Smith said after that they knew the vulnerabilities were from Oz kicks in that period and they ended up handing Oz an opportunity that they took. -
The YC thing was all from mis communication. TMO said "that's all the angles I have" after NO decided on a penalty. NO thought he was interrupting to tell him to watch again (code for 'you have it wrong'), so NO upped it to a yellow.
I have no issue with the decision it was just out of line with NOs obvious intention to not go to the pocket if at all possible. -

From the post match press conference:

Cheika: To beat NZ – “You just stay it. You have to mark yourself against the best. We have to keep growing. We’re just starting. We want to do really good things for Australian rugby going forward.â€

That's what I like about him, plain language and clarity about what he is up to. As I have noted here before - all he needs now is to have the faction which sponsored him to run interference on the ARU, and on the internecine warfare from the various unions and factions, so that he is free to get on with the excellent job he has started.
-

It was a yellow. He didn't drive him into the ground but he did lift him. I thought when he said just a penalty that we were lucky but it made up for Kepu getting away with 3 yellow card offences, and as it turns out, Pocock getting away with a red card.

Either way, pretty silly and got them back in the match.
-

Yep. The Wallabies will be a huge threat in the years to come.
-

Yeah, I'd be curious if Hansen was asked how he rated that performance because in crucial moments I thought we were poor. Now a 17 point win after leading the entire game, where the only real challenge game during a yellow card period means we certainly performed well during large periods. But I thought there were several points where we didn't bring the same intensity or attention to detail that we had in the past - specifically at the beginning and ending of that yellow, and taking sensible options after breaks so ball can be recycled.

A lot more little mental lapses than we are used to - Bender's card was another, Carter missing touch on the penalty etc.
