Seriously Nick? Kaino had one head high, and Kepu had at least 4 dodgy acts. I feel a bit sorry for Kepu, he's usually a clean player but was obviously instructed or thought he needed to be the enforcer for the Wallabies and through share dumb luck he managed to not get binned.
-

Owens gave him a verbal. Warning him that the next time he does it, it'll be treated differently than with a penalty. -

C'mon Baabaa, you can't watch that tackle and not see the role that Hoopah plays* in making it look worse. It could have been a red card but that would have been idiotic! As Crucial notes the red is fair enough, but as I noted when the game was being played Oz were lucky to keep Kepu on the field for 80 minutes.

Oz TV have been great, they've played the game half a million times and played highlights packages of the other finals (how good was Piri's kick to get us to the lineout that Woody scored from, right?) so I've been watching different parts all day.

Yeah I agree, that's why I tempered my opinion once I saw the replay. You generally miss those factors in real time because there is so much going on.
-

Kirwan - I'm not doing this as a points scoring exercise. I'm using it to point out the referees either missed things or judged them in a different light to other incidents based on what they saw. Some of them I'm less happy with than others. Not going to change anything now.

For example: people above are talking about Foley being offside for Genia's kick on the second try. Again, not going to change anything now, but its interesting to look at these and see where refs and their team are making calls and where they're not. Particularly as they're allowed to use the TMO two phases back edit from a try being scored /edit and could, in theory, check on anything in that period like the bloody NRL do (for which I'm thankful they're not).

And I don't see you popping snide remarks at them.

? Apologies - I thought you were referring to the Kepu high shot on Carter and I was using the Kaino one as a parallel.

Kepu got penalised - probably lucky not to get a yellow.

The high shot on Kaino was referred to the TMO on the run. Was about 35m out dead in front, so goal kicking opportunity (tactical advantage). There was no subsequent input from the TMO, or before there was, Owens called advantaged over just as we got to the 22, out on the tram tracks on the right hand side. I thought that was very odd, given to this point we've seen TMOs go back for foul play or refs pull play up to look at it in this RWC. It didn't look like advantage.

Guess World Rugby need to work on the TMO guidelines a bit more, and should NOT be introducing them at RWC but have little option given the different broadcast setups for Test rugby across the world

Through the refs mic (sports ears) it was Owens who referred it to the TMO to check that incident, whilst play continued. By time the TMO had reviewed it, Owens told him 'advantage over anyway' as play had progressed on.
Next question. -

A kiwi mate said today ,

All the people who have had great pleasure calling us chokers over the years ,

Will some time in the near future be hit with the reality , their worst nightmares could come true, we could go 3 in a row

In much the same vein I said this morning to a bunch of rugby mates that we'd spent 24 years making this a world tournament and now we''ll do the three-peat and everyone else would lose interest. Or turn it into a sevens tournament with a cup, plate bowl and shield.

Owens initially thought it to be a penalty only offence. It was the TMO (although without verbaling it) that suggested Owens should take another look at the screen. It was marginal, but then he decided to give the yellow after another viewing on the screen.

Fair dues to Smith, he copped it without argument.

Owens had a great game. I also saw the refs arrive at the ground, Barnes was getting mobbed for selfies and autographs.

But I liked how all the assistant refs waited, outside the building, for Nigel to turn up (who was the last of the officials to arrive) before following him into the stadium dressing rooms.

I said to Nigel as he walked past, "let's go Nigel. Have a great game" to which he responded with a wave and s thank you. -

- The obstruction rule where you run into your own player - is that an actual rule now that if the tackle is "effected", there is no penalty, or just an interpretation from Owens? Saw this twice in the first half.

Didn't stop him throwing a swinging arm at the back of Richie's head right before NMS's try. Or the niggly shit on the ground to NMS and SBW.

I'm watching a replay now and fark the Aus lineout is shit. Even when they managed to catch the ball, the throw wasn't straight half the time.
-

Stephen Jones in the (UK) Sunday Times was a hoot praising the All Blacks. He really, really must have hated writing that. His RWC XV included 3 ABs - Aaron Smith, Nehe M-S and Carter. He also rated his best moment of the tournament the "final whistle of the NZ-France Quarter-Final" - that game must have given him nightmares.

A really enjoyable read... :mocking:
-

Exactly. Jones just couldn't allow his anti-AB bias to stay hidden. Was probably wetting himself with the the thought of a Wobblie victory after they cut a 17 point lead to 4 points.
-
I'm still not convinced with Kieran read, since the head knocks he is still not himself dropping a lot of ball, still a brilliant player but not the same player he once was

It may be lessened somewhat, true, but I'm guessing there will still be a few Ratpoo's and Walruses in the prestige print media insisting the ABs will always be chokers until they prove they can win RWCs without Dan & Richie.

What a great game, the score line totally reflected the game for mine. ABs where just better in every facet except turnovers. But it's something I have thought for years about Pocock and Hooper is if you spend so much time and energy going for turnovers you will lose something elsewhere. Man for man I just thought there where few areas that Wallabies where better and add the strength of our bench and it's just unfair.

Can't recall a time seeing DC so pumped during a game. His expression told a thousand words. History drove his performance, heartache and dissappointment. For those who had gone before. Faliure.

That expression said it all. If I could have read his mind, this is what he would have been thinking..

THERE IS NO WAY, WE ARE GOING TO LOOSE THIS. NO WAY!!!

A true legend. -
You could see it after the semi vs SA.
