Possibly the only person in NZ that wouldn't mind if Richie does retire?

It has all been said - what a performance. The whole team/squad/management take a bow. I love the who dares wins approach. They went out to win, not 'not to lose'

2011 felt like Richie willed us the cup. This time it was DC. Just like the semi final, when it got hairy, Carter stepped up big time. The huge raking touchfinder was important - we were losing the kicking battle in the minutes before then. That drop goal and penalty to boot. This is after getting whacked around by Sio in the first half - he's tough. Total class on and off the field. Champion players deserves this moment.

Wallabies did bloody well to manage the onslaught early and limit and then obviously the comeback. They are some team. Excellent tournament for them and great to have the proper Wallabies back.

What a performance by the whole team - NMS is a total weapon, SBW delivered like he has all tournament (he seems to grown up since being a father), Whitelock was amazing again, Kaino his physical best, Aaron Smith playing super quick etc. The management and coaching as well - Hansen what a coach, and the rest (coaches, selectors, strength and conditioning, mental skills).

I thought old firm all were special tonight - Richie everywhere, Nonu continuing on his crazy form (awesome tackle on beale and of course that try), Conrad smart summed up by that first try and Mealamu with some trademark runs off the bench...

..and of course Dan. What a player. Perfect way to cap off one hell of a career. The best player on the field in the crucial stages of the semi and the final. The man. -

So Ben Franks played 22 minutes, and no penalties.

Quade's staying, isn't he?

Not according to reports. His agent apparently signed something which means QC is out of pocket $200K if he renegs, and the owner of the club (Toulon? Yes, Toulon) said he'll come after the ARU if he needs to - not because of the money, but just because he's a billionaire and could probably buy the ARU if he wanted. See below - this was April. Think Quade had cold feet after McKenzie left, and Foley started getting game time. Plus all the "ITS A NSW CONSPIRACY!" shit flying around.

There were a LOT of angry QLDers unprepared to accept McKenzie was anything but a saint.

Anyway, the word is that Quade is going to honour his deal and play 2 years in France. He meets the 7 year rule but not the 60 Test rule (58 caps I think) so would be toast as far as Wallaby selection goes.

In a local rugby website here - after instant dismissal of the vision on the grounds that Lovely Lancelot wasn't even looking, didn't know anyone was there, it wasn't a stomp and, anyway, Cynical Sir Richie the Cheat was cynically gripping his leg to cynically impair his superiority, the linked report now redirects to a piece about <strike>him</strike> Him rescuing a kitten trapped in a tree or something, owned by a kiddie, on his day off, a Sunday in fact.

I'm asking for trouble here, but here are the facts - looking purely at the vine provided:

1) Pocock isn't looking at McCaw as you say

2) McCaw grabs the leg with both arms, and is rolling backwards as he goes to deck, and is basically prone on his back.

3) Pocock pulls against the hold once, then again to free himself.

4) As Pocock frees himself, McCaw grabs for the leg again, maybe to protect himself, but its not clear because it happens too fast and the quality of the video isn't clear enough

5) McCaw kind of rolls to the left - another AB (Carter?) has landed with his shoulder in McCaw's left inner thigh which might force him to roll in addition to evasive action from the boot

6) Pocock plants his foot as McCaw rolls. If McCaw's head had stayed where he first grabbed the leg, its highly like the foot would have landed near it, not on it.

7) The probable contact point doesn't seem to be in shot - you can't see any part of Pocock's lower leg as it begins its journey from the top of the knee lift - maybe a brief blur of boot on the way down.

8) Contact point could be boot studs, the stitching on the side, Pocock's ankle or shin bone

8) McCaw checks his head as he gets back to his feet.

McCaw's clear intent is to take Pocock out of play by grabbing his leg. Pocock's clear intent is to keep himself in play by freeing his leg then moving forward to the next breakdown.

Would be good to see another angle if anyone has one. Or better definition video.

BUT, you'd have to be a complete idiot to deliberately stomp someone's head, given the TMO has so many angles covered, and the ARs are meant to be looking for this sort of thing. And Pocock, having been warned about using his knee on the Welsh, isn't that stupid, despite what some might like to believe. Nor is he a saint as the continued unfunny content likes to portray.
-
Watching the final once more - how good was it to see one last burrowing run from Mealamu off the bench making 5 more metres than you'd initially expect going into the tackle.

Missed in all of this a very solid player and really the first prototype for the more mobile fourth loosie style hooker. Will be missed. -

Just about all of that is irrelevant Nick. I don't think anyone here is accusing Pocockwomble of a deliberate stomp on the head.
We can all see McCaw holding the leg. I bet both players held each other as long as they could get away with all game.
The fact is that Pocockwomble put his foot down and it connected with McCaws head. The onus is on him to take sufficient card that he doesn't do this. Heads are sacrosanct. Boots on heads usually draw a punishment. The severity of that punishment takes into account any mitigating factors.
Remember Adam Thompson tapping a players headgear covered head lightly with his foot as notice to get it out of the way of the ball? Was correctly cited and punished.
Horwill was cited and in most eyes got off very lightly.
Can't see why (except for "politics" and not wanting to sully the final) this wouldn't at least attract a citing and get looked at carefully. -
