World Cup Final match thread

Well played Wallabies. You got within 4 and appeared to apply good pressure.

Carters' droppy, and long range penalty was amazing.

Score perhaps flattering in the end but it just goes to show how important playing to the final whistle is.

Looking forward to a few celebratory drinks this arvo.

Trying to figure out what was going on our first attack position near Wallaby line, from back of ruck Aaron chucks ball that bounces off a surprised Whitelock at first receiver. Still not sure what that was about..
-

I'd also like to give a big thumbs up to Bernard (Nard) Foley who has put up with a lot of shit about him not being "World Class" and associated rubbish - most particularly from Quadeslanders in these parts.

Â

I thought he handled all the pressure with real maturity, absolutely fisting England with 28 individual points, pulling off some superb tackles against Wales, and making the kicks required to take us deep into the competition. He may not be as naturally talented as some, but he uses every single fucking bit of what he has, and improving his goal kicking, general kicking, and passing game over the last two months immensely.

Â

Tonight he made his kicks, helped guide his team around, and was part of a playmaking unit responsible for getting us within a shot of the prize. Not bad for a bloke who is yet to rack up 30 caps.
-

I had to laugh in that clip that it was Messam that gave the kid the beanie, but the beanie had TKBs initials on it.
Watch again and watch the second security guy (not the one that made the tackle) he is dying to get in there and make sure the kid is probably thrown out but eventually looks to be realising it wouldn't go down well.
Good work by NMS to calm down the first guy and Hansen to come in and chat to the kid as well. -

JUst watched the game again.

Man there was some brutal defence, right through to the 80th minute, such a great game.

he did say toddy told him there's a spot there if he wants it....wtg? Called into the blues as injury cover? Now that would be awesomehe is only 34 and playing as good as he ever has. If he wanted to he could play on. Reckon he probably wouldn't want to go around another soup season though. Read capt and Richie off the bench

Just saw the Ben Smith incident again - to his credit, even on the slowmo you can see he's realised it went badly, and tried to lower the leg.

If he gets cited will Hooper get cited as well as he was the guy on 'top'? :)

Sneak: You can watch the game and shag a Norwegian chick at the same time - saving yourself for the Kiwis tomorrow morning?

Â

That last 10 minutes of defence by the ABs was like a carbon copy of the last WC. The ABs just tackled and got the fudge back into the line to tackle again. It was bloody awesome on the replay. However, unlike the French game where I was always confident we could hold them out I was shitting my daks this time round.

Â

Has any other sin binning had this much impact on a game? I think Oz were dead and buried until Smith was yellowed. We were crushing them in the lineout, killing them in the scrums, and had been accumulating points. I think Smith stays on the field and it's a comfortable win. You have to give credit to the Wallabies, they took their opportunities well.

Â

I like Chieka, to hark back to the shitfight earlier in the thread, I think he's an insider in Oz rugby (you can't get any more inside than Randwick), but he marches to the beat of his own drum and seems a good bloke. I think he'll have his guys pumped for some revenge in the RC next year.
-

Just watched the replay, won't be the last time today, and BB's try was an awesome thing to behold. The way he chased, didn't panic and try to gather the ball too early but rather controlled it with the little kick on then gathered and scored. All class!!

Congrats New Zealand. Didn't get a chance to see the game unfortunately but the result was unsurprising.

This is a great great team.

Enjoy the day ferners. A worthy victory.
