@machpants it is beginning to look more of a competition at wing for Clarke isn't it? A few months ago winger spots seemed much more open..

He would make a great bench option instead of Jordie/Dmac in the 23 jersey.

Nah, Clarke's form was so bad he shouldn't have made the ABs at all let alone be in the starting Blues 15.

so does Clarke come back in at any point? Must be out of iso shortly?
Caleb Clarke was poor for the Blues at the start of the season. Needs to prove form and fitness through the NPC before he can be considered for the ABs again.

I hope Roger has a good influence on him and helps him train Sheckloads.

Downvote for the terrible dad joke

Lol Clarke wasn't amazing for the Blues but he wasn't anywhere near as bad as people are making him out to be. If anything, its a good lesson for him going forward.

Same thing happened to Reiko in 2020. He got injured and the "haters" remember it as being out of form.
Clarke had a misdiagnosed injury which he played through thinking he was fit. Even on one leg is better than Bridge.

Because he covers 11 and ... ?

And 14 I hope.
We could axe one of Barrett or Dmac and have Jordie/midfielder and a wing on the bench and probably have much more impact.
If we start Beauden and axe Dmac, we could bring Jordie off the bench at 15 or midfield and have a weapon runner on the bench to come on later in the game. If Rieko starts on the wing, we could bring Jordan off the bench in a similar role, or if Jordan starts use Reece in that role.
I feel like our bench right now is an attempt for the coaches to not make choices between the four players they like.
With Havili there as well, we have heaps of fullback cover and plenty of playmakers, so we could use our bench to introduce some weapons and create some competition for spots that are not sewn up (wing, midfield, fullback).

@gt12 I don't see JB being preferred to Ioane as the midfield cover if we start with Havili and ALB. To me, Jordie either starts at FB or isn't in the 23. And if he starts at FB then he is the most likely to be replaced at some stage (by BB or DMac).
So something like this:
9 Smith
10 Mo'unga
11 Ioane
12 Havili
13 ALB
14 Reece
15 J Barrett21 TJP
22 B Barrett/DMac
23 Jordan/Clarke -

23 Jordan/ClarkeThat looks much better to me, but right now given that we aren't sure if he is coming back or not, I wouldn't put any time into Dmac. Rather, I'd rotate Mo'unga, BB, and Jordie in the 22 jersey.

Get Jordan the minutes at 15 so he can play there next year when Roger has the 14 jersey locked down.

I think whoever is picked as the first choice 10 needs to keep starting as much as possible.
The more a 10 starts the better he gets at running the teams systems etc.
Changing 10's all the time disrupts the team developing IMO.
