Peleton

Anybody use these?
I haven't, but pretty much so everybody I know has at least the bike, with a few with the bike and the treadmill. I'm much more an exercise outside guy, and never ever go to gyms. But the constant chatter from the users does actually sound like they are pretty good.

@MajorRage yeah the ads are everywhere at the moment eh, it's pretty tempting to give it a go for the exercise classes or something.
But I get enough sneering derision from myself at my lack of athleticism when I can't complete what should be a straight forward work out, I don't need it from a bunch of others too.

"Bones in Bromley, time to show us what you've got!!!"
There is little in life more boring than sitting on an exercise bike if you ask me.

Fucken eh! I try to jump on for 5 minutes before doing legs at the gym and usually end up coming up with an excuse to end it at 3 or 4 minutes...."wellllll.....I did come up the stairs 2 at a time....".

Next time to do 3 and start considering your options at the 2 minute mark.

Peleton is an absolute no for me. We considered getting the bike and subscriptions for all of 5mins, and I think if you are serious about gymming at home then fine, but if you are eventually going to go back to the gym like my husband will then why bother? There are lots of YouTube videos on similar bikes at fraction of the cost too that can be used alongside the app or just use YouTube for classes or workouts.
We have a perfectly fine standard exercise bike, treadmill and weights etc in our garage and I've really enjoyed using the bike lately to get in what I think of as a lazy workout if I've had a desk day and just want to get some exercise in. I typically don't use machines, and I really dislike gyms after working in one in my youth and prefer just using YouTube for hiit workouts or yoga...
Anyway to get to my point... the game changer was putting a TV up in the garage, wasn't my idea but its winning! When I was looking into Peleton I discovered a channel on YouTube called Bike the World...
There's no training or motivation to it just scenery, I seriously zone out to this with a bit of music on and have done a few now, highly recommend and time flies!

In desperate need of purchasing these sexy shorts...
And actually debating purchasing a Peleton again as I've become pretty bike obsessed lately and now convincing myself that my standard stationary bike is not enough, it really isn't what was I thinking, I need a Peleton.
Has anyone bought one yet!?BTW, New Zealand is beautiful, I should know I've cycled it... đŸ¤£ Well there is one more vid, he's just added another NZ one to YouTube today. Moving on, I think I'm doing Norway next.

Looking to buy a stationary bike and wondering if any recommendations re make, models, basic requirements etc from Ferners who know about these things?

I did something similar a couple of months back where I Was looking for either a bike or a rowing machine.
Best thing to do is to go to a fitness shop and try them all out. They are all quite different and only when using them can you get an idea of what really works for you. I had sprained my ankle badly and I ended up buying a concept 2 rowing machine copy. Weirdly, the C2 was very painful to use, but the one I bought was fine.

Depends what you want it for. You could just get a bike and hook it up to a turbo trainer (wind trainer in NZ?). Failing that, I use a Wattbike almost daily for training during the week, mainly because I can configure it to my road bike geometry. Wattbike Atom is a cheaper equally good version and takes up less space. Not cheap though.

That’s digusting behaviour

Do you mean disgusting Vodo?
Lucy Charles-Barclay , Ironman World Champion, did almost all her bike training indoors …
Oh, I am well aware of the pain that a trainer can inflict - I also did 80% of my IM training on mine, I really only did 3 x big
rides outside. But its a horrible torture machine, boring and painful all at once. And I could not imagine getting on the thing on a daily basis!

do you have a bike at all?
do you want to do programmes / virtual riding i.e. hook up to a computer?
budget?
will more than one person be using it?I'd recommend at least a 'smart trainer' - programme controls the trainer e..g if you're riding a road course when it goes up a hill it makes it harder or in erg mode when doing a programme it controls the power you have to put in.
riding on a 'dumb' stationary trainer will drive you insane very quickly.
most basic option if you have a bike is a 'wheel on' smart trainer

$250 plus bike plus monthly sub for whatever platform you use.from there you step up to a 'wheel off' direct drive trainer - more expensive but very quiet and a much nicer feel.

I'd always struggle to buy one of those full bike setups as you can buy a bloody good 2nd hand bike plus trainer for less - then you've got a bike to use outside if you ever want to.
but if you're say a couple then they're got as easily adjustable
