@Rapido I want to see both him and Young in the team asap. Time to get a bit ruthless with our selections.
Kane WIlliamson made no runs in the last test. Fuck him off for a start
The fact he put his wife and her well being before the team absolutely disgusts me

996 runs, 5 tons, average 62
So typical shit or bust Kiwi batsman. Minimum 500 runs in 5 innings means 496 in total over the other 15. So an average in the low 30's. Not exactly Mr Consistency then.
Will Young did score 996 runs in last 20 FC innings. So Voerman correct there.
Average is 62.25
But 4 hundreds, not 5.4 hundreds, 2 low 50s, but only 3 single digits. So actually not famine or feast. Rather too many wasted starts.
These were the scores:
133, 14, 110*, 9, 23, 43*, 10, 133*, 1, 22, 68, 17*, 26, 54, 3, 150, 20, 20, 17, 123Of those 20 innings - it covered 5 matches which were for NZ 'A' against India 'A' and touring West Indians. Which adds a bit more gravitas, including being elevated to open, as he did in one of the tests.
Interestingly. The games immediately outside the last 20 FC innings are a further 3 matches for NZ 'A'. Again 1 v India 'A' plus 2 v Pakistan 'A' in UAE.
This is 2 years ago by now. Late 2018.
But 'A' games are most relevant to judge ability to step up.
Scores in those 5 games were: 49, 28, 0, 23, 74 -

Scores in those 5 games were: 49, 28, 0, 23, 74Five hundreds including 2 NO. So averaging 123 in 5 innings and 26.69 across the other 15 - including a further 2 NO. Statistics can prove anything but I'd still say that isn't the consistency you'd want from someone being touted as much as Young

I think this is Taylor's last year. Maybe he stays until WTC final if NZ makes it (therefore also tour of England preceding it, if it happens).
Already I'm thinking demote him to 5 to protect his poor starts against newish ball. Which is not good, reminds me of Ponting's last years.
Big caveat for me is Conway hasn't played 'A' level yet. And he was a failure at South African franchise level. Is he a Plunket Shield, Currie Cup level lion? But, thing is he 'looks' class. So, I think not.
But 13 man test squads with concussion subs means he is still untried at 'A' level, which IMO is a shame/waste.
He did score runs v West Indians in the non-FC warm up game for NZ 'A', though. But got test squad callup and missed the proper FC game. But ... I don't hold much respect for those sorts of games. But, it's something.

That's probably normal though isn't it? It is wasn't, then everyone would be Bradman.
But, the "touted as much' part is a valid conversation.
IMO, we are talking a potential test average 35ish sort of guy. Not an immediate Ross Taylor replacement. I mean, Ross is NZ's probably 4th best batsman of all time. But current Ross is sub-30.
It's just, we don't normally have test average 30ish guys sitting on the sidelines for years. We usually have 2 sub 30s or borderline 30 guys in the top 6.
I don't think he will average 35 as an opener, though. Maybe late 20s or just over 30.
Conway. Is more an unknown. I haven't really watched much of him TBH.

Exactly. I hardly think we’re in the luxurious postion of critiquing an average of over 60

Seifert seeing them like beach balls. Guppy on the other hand seeing them like a pea.

....unless they are medium paced half volleys in the slot

Big breakthrough with Kane chopping on.
45-2 after 5.3

the hide on this fluffybunny to provide a bit of advice
Ali Raza: "whenever I am new at crease, I deliberately try and play close to my body so the ball can be under my eyes. But when I am cutting the ball close to my body I sorta use vertical bat and try to punch it rather than cutting it. Thats what williamson did wrong, he got too close, he should have tried to punch it with vertical bat."
yeah mate, cheers for the heads up, i'm sure your technique on your dusty Lahore grassless burner is impeccable

Much better at cricket cos his try hard ‘all the players are my mates’ is far less noticeable
