Bledisloe Four: Brisbane, 7 November

This is the real problem with the ABs game play of just punishing on the counter, when forced to change plan it’s hard to suddenly try and take control of the game, slow it down, play for territory etc
Some of these guys just have the rugby smarts to change from fast and loose everyone can one hand offload to traditional roles etc

I know BB was hopeless but can we blame him? He has hardly played 10 in the last year and a half.
The bigger problem would be if he didn't blame himself.
But he looked pretty contrite in the after match interview. All the olders have to take some blame for that nonsense
Do you think he did? I though he was a bit smug! Just didn't seem that upset to me, and I didn't hear him absorb any blame?

@voodoo said in Bledisloe Four: Brisbane, 7 November:
Lots of talk about BB and SB.
But did we see enough of "best 15 in the country" JB tonight to relegate him to the bench / outside the 22?
He certainly didn’t provide that second playmaker role from fullback.
Very early days but tonight showed a number of areas he needs to work on.
-
ABs haven't had any midfield penetration since Rieko at 13 in the first test.
I'm really annoyed by putting Laumape in the squad. He's just so far off test level. He has running straight and that's it. He gets dominated and isolated at test level, and his distribution is genuinely terrible.
-
@Tim you’re kidding right? Ardie was by some way the best player on the park tonight.

@Kirwan said in Bledisloe Four: Brisbane, 7 November:
So we know our top 2, 9 & 10, 11,12,13 and 15
Props and locks are obvious, SB nigh drop down behind Vaai after another brain fart.
There is a battle for 6 and 8 coming up. Weber should get a shot ahead of TJ and move Reiko to 14.
Top 15 is starting to look strong.
Pretty much spot on analysis.
Think SB is now in 4th place behind Whitelock, Pat T, & Va'ai. Will be 5th if he has any more brain farts. Think we have an embarrassment of riches at 6 & 8. Different styles of players and a mix of experience but all strong players. Just need to get the combination right.
Big gap between AS and the next best 9 based on tonight's game. Just hope TJP picks up his game as the cupboard at 9 is looking bare.

I disagree. We held the ball and scored from it early.
Then we decided that we didn’t want to play that way. Went back to kicking it away and trying to play off turnovers. And?
If the question is whether it’s coaching, selection, or player decisions, I think the answer is yes.

@voodoo i know bro, but I'm straw grasping for some progress from this absolute fucken let down!😁
Perhaps he was being media savvy but I caught some irritation in his voice early on.
I can run with that 😎

The kicking is fine because it’s better to be down in the right half, but the execution was off.
Especially with Hodge who eats 50 metre penalties for breakfast.
-
Laumape's distribution is so bad
We rightfully criticised Goodhue's wide passing at 12, but he is so much better than Laumape.
-
@akan004 edit Akira was tackling well. SB was ok
-
I might be lynched here but I thought Weber was miles better in his instant cameo than TJP. He could actually pass at speed and to a player.

You haven’t read the thread
-
TJP needs to go to Japan and forget about test rugby. He has lost it.
-
@nostrildamus TJP really really cost us with headless chook play right on half time when we were on attack.

He just need to pass Was so selfish
-
That is why I never shell out to watch the ABs when they're over here. They pretty much always play shit in Brisbane. Shocking record. Even the 1988 team only managed a draw!
So I'm not going to lose my shit and I'm more "meh, flush dunny and move on".
....except when it comes to TJP. Christ he was horrible. What the hell was with that quick tap and kick? Bring back TTT.
-
We found our 6, our gap at 9, our gap at 12, and 14.
Even Bridge >Reece.
Wonder if Cane is beaten up but tried all night.
I thought Rieko was really good in defense, was oten isolated but that may have been because he is so darn fast and back up was patchy.
I know people are saying ALB/JG but if they play JG/ALB I think I would prefer ALB/RI!
Oh and the NL/ALB was a complete misfire tonight. Is NL matchfit? -

Lynched? You'll get a HJ.

@Tim Reiko needs to learn how to pass the ball before he gets anywhere near that AB 13 jersey again. Leave him on the wing where he belongs.

Fuck yeah
We started that game, after their bloody clever try, by twice going through 20 plus phases of smart disciplined ball retention. It was fucking fantastic with props not pop passing, holding the ball, percentage ruck and run. Like great decisions being made by each ball carrier.
I loved it! Remarked that it was as good as I've seen for a bit, and surely a portent for something clinical to follow.
Like fuck

I thought that combo worked well in the North v South match
-
@Kirwan he doesn’t pass the ball though that’s the problem.
Umaga Jensen is a better centre anyway.

That’s actually what I was saying, when we did keep the ball and play with it we scored...but didn’t keep doing it, started throwing it around, anyone anywhere in the line, kicking it away and hoping for a mistake

I think if they had a RWC final tomorrow, they'd pick JG/ALB with Reiko on the bench or wing.
I dunno what's best anymore, but the 1 constant seems to be ALB in th midfield mix.

@Canes4life he never passes it. That's such a good and accurate point. How shit was perenara tonight?

@Victor-Meldrew said in Bledisloe Four: Brisbane, 7 November:
Biggest worry for me is mental attitude when under the pump. Key players in the team just seem to go to pieces.
These players aren’t robots so are susceptible to pressure and circumstance. Even the very best AB teams have been put under the grill and not won. Just shows that sometimes it’s such a small margin between winning and losing.
It’s not meant to be a cop out, but there is an opportunity to learn from it and hopefully those that played tonight and get selected next week will do some things differently.
From my perspective we played poorly by the standards we’ve seen this year, but that’s sport where one week you are champions and the next you can look like a schoolboy side.
Aussies played well for periods but they also turned the ball over a hell of a lot too and looked scrappy. They got away with quite a few hands in the ruck but they tested the whistle in that regard. Some excellent individual play from Marika certainly was a big plus for them.

So you like players that can pass well, unless that player is TJ.
-
Backline, top in their position currently...
- Smith
- Mounga
- Clarke
- ALB
- Rieko
- ...
- BB (had to deal with TJP tonight)
I think Jordan can make the 14 jersey his own, and honestly i think he could be the best fullback in the country as well.
- Weber
- Goodhue
- Dmac
-
Perenara has been a big turd off the bench since the Lions tests. Garbage idiot focussed on yelling at the ref.
-
@nostrildamus the comments on here have been about a lack of composure. Jacks strength is he is a really good decision maker and stays in the pattern making sure he does he does the basics well. Reiko still gets lost on D at centre and his passing game needs work. The selectors will go back to JG/ALB combo.
-
@Tim and how good was Ardie tonight?
