The Bay v Hawkes
-
Regular starters Joe Apikotoa, Geoff Cridge, Brendon O'Connor and regular sub Jason Long not in the 23.
Regular starters Tom Parsons and Lincoln McClutchie on the bench, and you can add Danny Toala to those two as well
-
@Number-10 OK thanks. Gareth and Bryn Evans not bad subs to have. Should be a cracker game
-
Visinia with the first try. Hawkes made that a lot harder than it should’ve been
-
Poor effort from the 13 to let Trask go
-
tackling is optional Today ..
-
A very silly yellow card from Jordan Lay costs us on the scoreboard
-
Did Dixon get that??
-
The Steamers are having a nice afternoon stroll in the sun at this stage...
-
Nope. Great run though
-
Bugger..Hawkes Bay should have kept going direct ..
-
Nice - as easy a length of the field intercept as Narawa will ever get 😊
-
The Magpies have brought all the energy, but thankfully we're somehow still in this. Our back three are low energy off the ball.
-
Strong crosswind is having a big impact. I thought Webber has been bop best with great chasing and involvement. Am hoping bop uses crosswind to better advantage this half. Visinia looks threatening for hb and their big forwards making lots of metres. Hot day too so fitness may tell
-
We're lucky so far today. Have to be better to take this game .....
-
How dumb was that from Visinia if he had let the ball roll into the in goal , it’s back to halfway for a scrum ..🤦♂️
-
Hawkes Bay could regret all these chances ..credit to the steamers D
-
Clayton needs to empty the bench
-
We're so slow to the breakdown
-
Yellow all day ..here’s the momentum shift

Unfortunately we're still pedestrian...
-
Good call to sub Narawa.
-
@Donsteppa both these teams doing their best not to win this game ..🤦♂️
-
Trask looks good as a fullback.

Agreed! We finally took an opportunity there, but we'd been doing our best not to for a while 😊
-
Narawa looked disinterested. His team needs urgency to hold the lead. Maybe the hard knock from Lowe tackle impacted.

Yep, he barely got above a jog for much of the time
-
Joe Webber is inspirational today
-
Scrum
-
@Steven-Harris wrong call..
-
Yusssss!!!!!
-
Plenty of errors from both sides
The Bay has a good recent record in these games. They’ve won 5 of the last 6 now
-
@Duluth was standing on sideline by last scrum. Ref calls hard to understand. Thought bop infringed first when they got scrum. But two earlier ones in sequence thought hb player should have incurred the penalty. So tough for poor ref to decide what to ping. Thought Trask Webber and van den Hoven kept bop in match with huge efforts. Most hb guys went very well. Great contest
-
Big turning point for me was pulling Ash Dixon , should have kept him out for the entire 80..congratulations to the Steamers, but I thought those missed opportunities would come back to bite.
-
Well done to The BAY
-
Good win by The Bay.
HB needed to score more points in the first half with all that possession and territory.

His intercept try might have been the turning point in the game. The classic 14 pt try.
Everyone outside of Hawke's and Canterbury is probably happy with the final result.
-
Good point .
-
The real Bay until we meet again. Lost nearly every stat except scoreboard and penalties conceded, so bloody lucky to escape with a win. Happily take it though as there is always a good stoush between these two teams, even if accuracy was lacking by both teams at times.
The Bay have two tough games to come against harbour and Waikato, but Canterbury have to turn their season around with their last two against the Ta$man invitational XV and Auckland.
Interesting end to this season to come
Good luck to Hawkes next week in their shield match

Lucky lucky win. I'd have been very annoyed if the roles had been reversed.
That intercept try was critical as we were hanging on and HB were dominating in all areas. 2nd half was just messy as both teams couldn't hold onto possession.
What was the final penalty count? Felt like we were being pinged all day bit in the blustery wind kicking for goal wasn't really an option.
I don't think Narawa is fully fit. He's strapped up and he's lost some pace.
