2020 NZ Schools

Thanks Bovidae by the way for putting up the teams on the site.Very helpful whilst watching at home.
-
@trodthesod That helped me too as they didn't hand out any match programme to the spectators. Relying on parents yelling out a player's name also helped.
-
When does the NZ Secondary School squad get named?I don’t think they play, but obviously would be the future go to players In the NZ age group teams.,so it would have prestige to be named.

There has been talk that a NZS team will be named from the 50 that played last Friday, even if they won't play a game.

@trodthesod I think the WHETTON XV was this year's version of NZ Schools (they played in black) and the HADEN XV was the NZ Barabarians Schools (they played in the usual red Barbarians jerseys). So I don't think there will be an official NZ Schools team, this year.

Have been told the two teams that played where selected to be of equal strength, but certainly the Whetton XV played a great second half that stretched the score to 8 tries to 2.

The teams will not play in 2020 but selectors have named the sides to recognise the efforts of the secondary school players this season. NZR High Performance Talent Identification Manager PJ Williams said selections were made from players performances across the 1st XV season and the Barbarians Under 18 Development Camps last month. “This is fantastic recognition for a group of players that have had a disrupted 1st XV season. I am sure they will be disappointed that they cannot pull on the black jersey this year, but being named in these teams is a great achievement, nonetheless. “After the Barbarians Camp earlier this month, all players were given individual performance plans and we look forward to seeing what the achieve in coming years,” said Williams.

@Bovidae I find the whole process terribly frustrating from start to finish. I've vented my criticism before, so won't repeat it, but it's sad to see talented players miss out due to the way the selections are taking place for both camps and teams.

This would be my top XV based on who has been picked in the squad, and what I have seen live and on TV.
1 Mason Tupaea (Hamilton Boys' High School)
2 James Mullan (Rangiora High School)
3 Havila Molia (St Paul's Collegiate)
4 Alan Craig (St Kentigern College)
5 Jamie Hannah (Christchurch Boys' High School)
6 Che Clarke (Kings College)
7 Fletcher Anderson (Christ's College)
8 George Methven (St Bede's College)
9 Noah Hotham (Hamilton Boys High School)
10 Ajay Faleafaga (St Peter's College, Auckland)
11 Luron Iosefa (Kings College)
12 Riley Higgins (St Patrick's College Silverstream)
13 Isi Saumaki (St Andrew's College)
14 Blake Makiri (St Peter's Cambridge)
15 Oliver Foote (Hamilton Boys High School)In the forwards, I think the only question mark would be at 6. It could be Torian Barnes. I actually expected Te Rama Reuben to make this team. While Hannah plays 6 for CBHS there are better options so he goes back to lock.
In the backs, maybe Caleb Tangitau at fullback but Foote was selected ahead of him in the Whetton XV , as was Chicago Doyle in the Haden XV.

He looks like a good prospect.

Bovidae.Value your input with NZ Secondary School rugby and your team looks strong.A question I’d like to ask,did you watch the two boys from Whanganui Lennox and Godfrey during their season?I thought they both played well at St Paul’s.I see you didn’t go with the big lock Holland.Bit slow I thought .
