The Chiefs were already fucked, so him having a little rest might be good for the ABs.
Three weeks, for that, seems heavy to me though.
It is the standard now and I agree that it needs to be there to try and change mindsets.
However, when one player gets 3 weeks yet another doesn't even get cited for a swinging high shot that connects flush on the chin it does look harsh.
I get why the ref missed it but the post game review should have easily cited that one.Which swinging high shot are we talking about?

To'omua on Collins the next day.

I take it he hasn't been cited?

Not that I've heard. It may have been looked at but dismissed as a YC only which doesn't seem in line with the DMac call.

Mils made some good points on the breakdown - how does Reece’s much more intentional hit get yellow but Dmac gets Red (and 3 weeks!) and that’s not even considering the Toomua shot.
Not sure on the Toomua one as I've only seen it once. But isn't there a few difference's between Sevu's and DMacs?
Sevu was making a tackle that started below the head on the ball carrier and then travelled up to contact with the head.
DMac ran in to shoulder charge/body check a player without the ball and clocked him clean in the face with his shoulder.
Sevu could always argue he was trying to make a tackle and a rugby incident occurred. DMac can only argue he was trying to take the Reds player out and accidentally hit his face, rather than his body.

That Chiefs loose forward trio is awesome. Hard to believe the loose forward trio they're playing against is even better.
Super rugby was awesome back then.
Shit Lauaki was a fucken tank.
RIP to him and JC.

That's a good point. On the other hand the Reece hit was pretty much straight to the head with impact. In terms of actual danger, I wonder which is worse, and in the modern game players run into each other all the time, so incidents very similar to the Dmac one get missed a lot (btw the way, I think the RC is justified, I just don't get the inconsistency).
I think Mils was making the point that there is a big difference between the two penalties, especially when Toomua got nothing for his (8:40 in the video).
From 6:45 here, you can the discussion about all three.

@bovidae
O'Neill was really tall. He played well against with the All Blacks against South Africa but being in a losing team did not help his cause. He did not have the career his physical attributes let expect. That statement sums it up. Bird was similar, and when he finally started to show promise, went overseas.

@bovidae Didn't Bird also have some bad injuries along the way?
I think he did have a few injuries but was also given plenty of opportunities for the Chiefs. He did play very well in the game against Wales.
