That fight (DDP Strickland) was pretty disappointing. DDP just exudes confidence, Strickland looked resigned to a beating and never looked like he was going to take control.
Strickland has done this a few times in his career. He did it against Cannonier too but came out on the right side of the split scorecards
Can’t help but think that Dana White keeps betting against DDP and losing…. What happened to UFC title defense in South Africa?
It's a conspiracy! Justice for DDP
White says "I'd like to see that" to almost every question about locations. Or he'll say 'Yes that will happen'
with no guarantees about dates. When pressed on an Africa card he said it depends on two things - a compelling card & good authorities to do business withA compelling card? Well I think a Nigerian card was closer 3-4 years ago than a SA card right now
SA politicians? Hahaha. The UFC has plenty of locations begging for cards (they haven't been back to loads of places since covid) they will go to countries and states they know they can deal with first
DDP will spend a lot of his career with his de facto home being Australia and maybe London. Similar to Adesanya who has never had a UFC fight at home. Aussie was his 'home' and the Saudi's seemed to pay money for him too

Doubt he'll get a title shot again. I'd like to see him and Whittaker finally fight
The way he was calling Khamzat out hard during the media interviews had me thinking that will be his plan B. If he loses to Dricus then maybe beat Whittaker or another high level and hope for a Khamzat title fight if Khamzat beats Dricus.
He's just so effectively one dimensional. Much more entertaining outside of the cage than in it.

Lol. Yeah fair point, I’ll put the justice for Dricus armband away.
And …. Afrikaner refugees set to flock to USA. This will not help SA at all, but that’s a different topic

Big announcements today
Tuporia vacating title and moving up weight class, apparently they are looking to match him vs Makhachev later in the year
Volk vs Lopes for vacated fetherweight belt at 314
Della Maddalena vs Muhammed for welterweight belt at 315 with Shavkat next in line as injured currently -
That sucks

Anyone picking against Pereira?
Ankalaev is good but has had trouble with the calf kick before. Pereira's calf kicks really hurt for some reason.. all the fighters mention it. Surely, despite what he's said, he has to wrestle?
Gaethje deserves massive credit for taking a dangerous lower ranked fighter after Hooker got injured. Surprised that Fiziev is the betting favourite. He's definitely good enough to win but he's taken the fight on short notice
Looking forward to seeing Ruffy fight again. He has massive potential

Damn this is a rough sport to follow sometimes, seems like as soon as I get invested in a great fighter then they are due to fall.
Ruffy was awesome, I get the hype for sure now.
Lemos fight was boring.
Feel for Turner, one of the first fights I saw in ufc was his loss to Rociano, apparently he's retiring? Other bloke looks the goods though, not even gonna attempt spelling his name but he was awesome at Noche.
Gaethje fight was just awesome. Hookers hand might have done him a favour, reports of Gaethje's demise have been greatly exaggerated.
Headline wasn't as fluid but damn tense. Hoping close enough that a rematch is on the cards. At least Pereira wasn't knocked out so still hoping my boy has the ability to get that belt back.

Spot on for all of that
Pereira looked dumbfounded at times because he’s battered previous opponents

@Rembrandt said in UFC / MMA:
Nice, should be a semi decent time in the morning to watch too
Yeah it should happen around 11:15am NZT
I’m surprised by the odds - Ulberg 1.32 v Jan 3.1
Ulberg should be the favourite but I didn’t expect him to be backed that heavily
