Yes, RW is more well rounded. Whittaker's highlights are mostly striking but he has a wrestling base. He can test Pereira in other ways.

Adesanya is a kickboxer with good takedown defence. Pereira is a kickboxer whose fights in the UFC have basically been kickboxing fights

Interesting. I’d assume Whitaker would lose to Pereira in a similar vein as he lost to Izzy.

I do get what you mean though, the old ‘styles make fights’ adage

Yeah and there's a lot of questions about Pereira. They rushed him because they knew he matched up well with Adesanya. How good is his gas tank when he's in a clinch battle? Can he work his way back to his feet etc

Who knows? Maybe he KO's everyone else and it doesn't matter

Yeah fair call. Just cos fighter A beat fighter B and fighter B beat fighter C doesn’t guarantee that fighter A beats fighter C.

Pereira just seems to have similar strengths to Izzy ( more so I would have thought before todays fight )

Joe Rogan and the gang certainly talked him up as a huge challenge but then again this is hardly unusual for them.

I reckon Bruce Buffer would be more spent than any of the fighters, his announcements are off the charts, I fully expect him to keel over at any moment.

KO power that I haven’t seen from him before

Just on that punch, Adesanya has rocked him with it several times before. Particularly in their second kickboxing fight

I went back and had a look at the end of the first round at UFC281. This video should be queued up for 5:34 Izzy lands almost the exact same punch and Pereira is out on his feet

UFC281 Pereira is saved by the bell goes on to win, UFC285 Izzy lands a follow up

    Tiny margins

Indeed but they could have counted to twenty and he wouldn’t have gotten up in time I reckon.

Was watching with the old man and a mate and we compared it to Alis punch to knock out Liston ( as did Izzy himself )

Of course I believe he threw that fight but that’s another story.

Adesanya slammed for ‘pathetic’ act toward rival’s son

Adesanya slammed for ‘pathetic’ act toward rival’s son

Kiwi UFC star Israel Adesanya has been slammed by fans after taunting the son of his rival Alex Pereira after his knockout win at UFC 287 yesterday. Adesan

Righto, hardly “slammed”, the only thing pathetic is the New Zealand news “reporting” but thats not surprising.

Sounds like the little fluffybunny deserved it to me.

@MN5 Perreia is not a counter fighter. Izzy is the best Counterfighter, a long counter fighter with good takedown D is Rob Whittakers nemesis as he likes to blitz in from range despite his own length being very average.
Perreia pressures you with his cage control and immense power. More single shots until he gets you trapped.

It would not be an easy fight for rob, but if he get Pereiras Back early in a round he could really work him over. Rob Mixes it up very well, and he could KO him or submit him on the ground. Rob would have to avoid calf kicks at all costs.

All that Whittaker v Pereira chat was pointless... Pereira just announced he's moving up to LHW

I see Bareman wants Adesanya to fight Hill for the LHW belt. Maybe the UFC will allow it because it will give time for something to develop at MW

Whittaker v Du Plessis for an interim belt?

Eventually, but even if they fast track him thats 2-3 fights away.

    Move Khamzat up a division?

The UFC wants a big event in Africa soon. I think they'll want Adesanya v Du Plessis to be the headline but it's hard to argue for him having a title fight without beating Whittaker

This fight is confirmed for UFC 290 in July. Not for an interim belt.. that may change depending on what Adesanya does next

290 will have Hooker v Turner and probably Volk v Yair. A fun card

I suspect they are going to let Adesanya go for the LHW belt. There were several MW fights confirmed this week, so the potential opponents are all busy now. Whittaker/Du Plessis, Hermansson/Allen, Vettori/Cannonier, Strickland/Magomedov

    Me too

Belal is the epitome of non-flashy but man is he hard to beat

Thought the Dober stoppage was premature

    Great debut from Lopes
