@MiketheSnow hope I'm wrong but just don't see how Volk gets up vs Islam.
Well be interesting to see what he looks like with 6 more kgs in him

Yeah it seems unlikely. Maybe he catches him with something early
Looking forward to seeing what plan Bareman & Lopez have for this fight

I don't know
Mak didn't look that much bigger than him in the post-fight chat

Four kiwis on the card at Madison Square Garden this weekend.
This ESPN interview is pretty good.. everyone is relaxed.
From other interviews it sounds like there was plenty of friction in this camp early on. Bareman cracked the whip about a few things. Hard to know what the specifics were but it sounds like he wasn't happy with some outside distractions.. also he criticised Hooker directly in public "The person who listen the least at the gym" etc

The storyline in the main event is obviously that Pereira has beaten Adesanya twice at kickboxing.
Mentally that's huge for Pereira but the fights weren't bad for Adesanya. Both fights are on youtube:
Fight 1 - 2016-04-02
Pretty even contest. Personally I think Izzy edged it.. not a robbery, just a close decision I disagree with
Fight 2 - 2017-03-04
Adesanya was having a lot of success with his right hand. Pereira needed a standing 8 count. Next round Pereira lands a clean shot and it's all over
I'm sure Pereira has improved since then but the difference in Izzy is huge. There's hardly any feints compared to the way he fights now. Also he seemed to react a lot more to getting hit.. Pereira would land something and Izzy would try to throw the same technique back at him. A bit sloppy after the comfy 'King in the Ring' fights?
This should be a fun fight. Some of Adesanya's title fights have been a bit dull because the opponent wasn't aggressive enough and/or didn't have the technique to get close enough. That won't be an issue for Pereira
Will be on edge watching this one. No matter how well Adesanya is doing Pereira has more than enough skill & power to end this with one shot

@Duluth agree.
I think izzy will dominate unless/until a left hand lands basically. Which will keep it very entertaining.
Yup. Looked a bit like the last fight. Izzy winning and then caught late. Thought Adesanya was too relaxed with his back to the cage.. in other fights he’s got out of those positions as soon as his foot crosses the line on the canvas
Assume an immediate rematch will happen. If not, Whittaker would be a terrible match up for Periera
Hooker was disciplined and back to his best
Poirier v Chandler was amazing

I've not watched alot of UFC, but seemed odd to me that Israel let him dictate the space in the ring, I gather he was also trying to lure him in to get hits, but I thought was an odd way to fight a bigger guy.

He is mostly a counter striker. I think Izzy was comfortable if clinch situations happened (correct) also he backed himself to react fast enough in close quarters (correct for 4 rounds)
Seemed like a different tactic to the Costa fight for example where he was super cautious about getting back to the cage. He would circle out with a couple of metres to spare
It’ll be interesting to hear what Bareman says about that

Yeah think you are right, Izzy was getting more and more comfortable and that’s what cost him in the end. And yep quite a bit like their last fight.
Card overall was pretty good. Great for Dan to get the win but ffs Puelle… can’t see him getting many main card fights if he goes with that approach again.
Poirier…wow. That was a great fight already. Chandler certainly brings it but Poirier did amazing to hang in there and then take the opportunity to get the win. Awesome fight

Fantastic card again
Some brilliant fights, finishes, and upsets
Had it all
8-4 for the night
Better than my rugby predictions 😉 -

Riddell taking a break from fighting:
I appreciate everyone that has been supporting me and standing by my side from day one though to these last 2 lacklustre performances. I’m going to step away from competing in MMA for a good while until the fire to compete comes back. I’m not performing close to my capability, and it’s a dangerous job if you’re not fully present . I’ve been training hard for 15 years , in and out of camps with not enough rest or balance and it’s massively taken it’s physical and mental toll on me. There has not been a year since I was 17 that I have not fought .I know this is the right choice because, as I write this, I feel a sense of relief for finally voicing what I had been feeling for awhile. I wanted to have one last crack at MSG to see if the feelings from the last camp were just one-off, but sadly they were not . It’s a hard pill to swallow, as this is what I’ve done my entire life and fighting was my first love . But sometimes you just have to face it .
There are a few over due surgeries to be addressed as well.I will keep training and teaching, but my energy that was all consumed by the sport will be directed at my family. The itch will come back, But a long time off is needed.
I appreciate everyone always supporting me .

The best non-PPV event of the year
Holland has an incredible chin and pain threshold. How did he stay standing after those body shots??
Thompson looked great. There's something really fun to watch when a high quality karate fighter starts flowing like that. The old man had the speed and fitness edge too
I hope RDA gets the Conor fight he asked for. He deserves the payday and Conor shouldn't be coming straight back and fighting a top 5 guy
Pavlovich surprised a few people. I think we are on the verge of a great era in the HW division. There's so many good fights to make over the next few years. Particularly if Ngannou sticks around and Jones finally fights
Elkins always has fun, bloody fights. Not sure how many more I want to see though
