Scott Robertson is on the cusp of re-signing with New Zealand Rugby (NZR), but not before some finer details are sorted.
It's understood they’re regarding contract length, an exit clause, and NZR’s process around appointing an All Blacks coach after the 2023 World Cup.The winner of three Super Rugby titles, and two Super Rugby Aotearoa crowns, has also repeatedly made it clear he wants to stay put, and that aspirations to coach the All Blacks remained.
However, the timing of the appointment process after the 2023 World Cup is something Robertson has to consider as he prepares to lock in his future.
Foster wasn’t confirmed as Steve Hansen’s replacement until December 11, 2019, and the process in 2023 would again likely be late in the year, given the World Cup in France isn’t scheduled to conclude until October 21.
Signing through 2023 and again missing out on the top job could leave him in a tricky position regarding his next move.
It’s understood signing through 2024, but having an option to exit if he doesn’t land the All Blacks job, is being considered.The Crusaders are set to farewell a bunch of players now that their 2021 campaign is over, including tighthead prop Michael Alaalatoa (Leinster), who finished with 99 Crusaders caps.
Wing Manasa Mataele (32 caps) is understood to have signed with the Perth-based Western Force, while loose forwards Tom Sanders (Japan) and Whetukamokamo Douglas (TBC) are also departing.
So - if this article is correct - does this mean it's already a done deal that Foster and co. will be re-appointed for 2022 and 2023? That sucks big time! -
@stargazer No it doesn’t mean a done deal, just that Razor wants to be here for another 2 years min, and if he doesn’t get ABs coah at the end of this season, he wants it next RWC - and how that appt process works is what they are looking at.

@stargazer A bit disappointing to lose Tom Sanders. I don't think we've ever seen the best of him.
But, I guess with Matera on the way, the writing was on the wall for Sanders and Douglas.
So - next year's loosies - Tom Christie, Sione Havili, Ethan Blackadder, Anton Segner, Cullen Grace and Matera - with Dunshea and Barrett providing a bit of cover? Might need one more?

2 year contract, and then Covid put paid to any chance of them shipping him off this year.

We'll still have the RC, with SA, and (maybe) NH tour. But as I said, utter disaster, loss to Fiji!

if he loses the Bledisloe to that so very ordinary Wallaby outfit (like they damn near did last year) then firing is way too good for him.

I mean what KPIs are they likely to have for him to stay put?
Score 50+ in each game v Island nations?

The wins may be close to Blackadder's and Deans', but the difference in losses is massive!Robertson has amassed a remarkable 71-4-9 record the past five seasons, and is quickly closing in on Blackadder (74-2-40) and Robbie Deans (88-1-30) for most wins as Crusaders coach.
