Ardie Savea has exploded on twitter about that story. Apparently, journalists aren't allowed to investigate what happened after players get stood down.
Personally, I hate clickbait and often journalists go too far, exaggarate, make mountains out of molehills, etc etc. Also in this case, the publicity and especially the way they've written about the players is way over the top, but surely they wouldn't be doing their job if they just accepted the message of the Highlanders management that they got stood down for breaching team protocol and not try finding out what happened?
-
For those without Twitter, can we get some examples?
I can see why players would feel a bit pissed about their private lives being dished up in the news, but in this case you’re right to point out that we’d have an even worse press if they didn’t try to find out what happened.

I am on the side of the players and the Highlanders. The media can go fuck themselves. Ardie is right, on one hand they promote mental health and on the other they drag these kids through the papers for being like nearly every other person their age.

Umaga-Jensen will miss the remainder of the season due to a broken arm in what is the latest blow for a young player that has shown glimpses of his vast potential but has been riddled with injury in recent seasons.
As for Fakatava, the highly-promising 21-year-old left the field last weekend with a swollen knee that Dermody said needs to be scanned before a decision can be made regarding his availability for the Chiefs clash. -

Bugger. He was one player I wanted to watch
Also this. Hopefully he can sort this out.
Off-season recruit Solomon Alaimalo, meanwhile, remains unavailable for selection. “He's dealing with some personal issues, he's outside of the team at the moment,” Dermody said.

@kiwimurph poor kid, such a promising talent but seems to be the next glass man. Hopefully makes a swift recovery.

damn it

@kiwiwomble poor bugger. Probably puts a question mark on him making the AB's as well, the way he's been playing I would have thought he'd have been called up this year.
Edit: of course he's not gonna make the AB's as ACL injuries are 9 months minimum.
-
@kiwiwomble buggar alright, for Highlanders (who will now probably use Smith more than they would have) but esp for him as he must surely have been on the AB radar

Otago halfback James Arscott has been bought in as a replacement for Fakatava. The injury list has grown over the last few weeks for the Highlanders with the promising Thomas Umaga-Jensen and Freedom Vahaakolo both ruled out for the season. They have been replaced permanently in the squad by Otago midfielder Josh Timu and Southland utility back Josh Moorby.

Real shame because Folau Fakatava was playing great footy and looking every inch an All Black.
He's young so hopefully he'll bounce back after surgery.
