Massive match for the Blues. Their season is in danger of being a big let down
Nope, we've done just fine this year, whatever happens from here on in. From being a rabble, we're now a competitive team that pushes every side to do well to win. There's a clear, cohesive unit that is playing pretty well most weeks, and I'll take that.
The steps forward would be mitigated by a series of losses, but to win 6 or 7 in a row, beat NZ sides home and away - the mental hurdle is cleared and we're building nicely for the future. There are no easy wins in this comp - I expected teh Highlanders to suck, but they ahve been super competitive (built around Former Blues WTG squad member Aaron Smith I might add )
Yeah, even with the loses have played well. We are a hard team to beat, home or away. Compared to previous seasons, how could this possibly be a let down?
because of the "if you're not first you're last" and "you're only as good as your last game" mentality
That said, 2 weeks ago the eye would have been on the title, a certain level of disappointment is realistic
Yeah, but that's just silly. We've gone for the 5th best team in NZ to arguably the second, at worst 3rd.
Perspective is important. I actually wonder if that Crusaders game was effectively a final, and the players were flat last week because of that result.
Hopefully they will get up again, and finish strong. A few players back will help, just Clark on his own would have made a difference against the Canes.

Also, the Blues played really really well against the Crusaders. We dominated them for most of the game, and that is bloody impressive. The loss doesn't change the way we played for so much of that game.

Yeah, the score blew out at the end which didn't really reflect how close the actual match was.

I agree, the Blues have done well and I have enjoyed watching their resurgence. They were in the fight against the Crusaders all the way and could easily have won that game. 'Big let down' was probably a bit of hyperbole, but to lose three in a row will get tongues wagging and people wondering if things have changed as much as hoped.
jesus you blues supporters are full of it... love it!
you were in that crusaders game for 60 mins. last time i checked a game of rugby is minimum 80mins. so that's a whole quarter of the game you weren't in it.
take away Reikos try cause it should have never been your scrum cause clearly came off the back of Plummers hand and you weren't even close.
anyway at least you're participating now I suppose

Nice backhanded compliment mate, crack up. Sounds like my post game talk to CF Jr's football team after a smashing!
After years of futility the bar is lower and being competitive along with winning some matches might be enough to satisfy the starving fan base this season. But the game is about wins and with BB offshore next year this was a season to knick a title

@WillieTheWaiter I am a Crusaders supporter...
-
I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Blues have a good strongest 15 - there aren't too many weaknesses in their top 15.
They still lack depth however in some positions (halfback, 12, 13 etc).
They certainly have improved but are very much are part of the chasing pack as opposed to the Crusaders level.
-
@KiwiMurph Yeah that's why I'm not too fussed on seeing new guys get given a crack. Plummer has been found wanting a bit at 12, but going forward we need to try these things to build depth, similar to Carroll playing at 6.
It's one of the reasons why the Crusaders are so good. They have depth everywhere.
-
Back to this game - hopefully Nock is back so we get to see Nock v Weber.
If Nock can finish the season strongly he could be in the mix for the 3rd AB halfback role.
-
@WillieTheWaiter how's those Chiefs going for ya Willie?

Watching Canes Blues just now - was out Saturday night. Half an hour in, and Christie is making terrible decisions, stinking up the joint. Nock was noticeably better.
It's interesting how as a halfback it's easier to come on and look good - going back to Byron Kelleher when he came off the bench over Marshall, but wasn't as good. Seeing that this season at times.
Anyone know when Nock might be back? Is he injured?

@nzzp he played for Kerikeri on Saturday apparently, word is he had been stood down.
Think it was @Nogusta said he had been 'sucker punched' by someone.
Was due to play for Kerikeri on Saturday but all rugby was cancelled up here due to the flooding.

Fuck it. Chiefs to turn up and win by 100 now that they 100% can't win the comp.
before your time young fulla, but that used to be our speciality. Wait until we couldn't make finals, and then come home with a wet sail, playing open exciting rugby.

@mariner4life reading that and all of a sudden I hear TJ in my head "LOKI CRICHTON!!!"
