So who would replace them? Ioane and Black?

They could save some money on kit and Foxy can call in Brett Cameron

Get SA to come and do a big tour with plenty of midweek games to get them up to speed. Would be good prep for their Lions tour next year.

Wouldn't that be bloody great. Use the Covid thing to put together an old-style rugby tour to keep the fans happy.

Worked for the Nth-Sth game and, if the finances can be worked out, could be a real win-win for Sth Africa and NZ Rugby.

The Prime Minister caves in. I hope she and all future NZ PMs realise they ain't as important as the All Blacks.

and avoidable if you don't throw out a 'SANZAAR politics' line. After all the heat on the border, keeping it secure is reasonable. And now a change in heart.

What no one is talking about is that any case of Covid in any touring party could scupper any tour at any time. We are in a super high consequence situation - even post quarantine, the teams are still at risk, albeit a low risk.

Full squad training after 6 days. Since the Aussies were planning on arriving on September 20 , they can't refuse the October 10 date anymore. Two weeks of full training is adequate.

What? JA said straight away that the quarantine requirements for Ozzie were going to be much less than SA/Arg and all their NH players. isolation 3 days, test, then traing. As good as 2 weeks prior to tests, same as we’ll get in Oz - no whinging from wallabies now, I hope

Im not sure Mark Robinson can claim any sort of victory.
The 2021 Super rugby negotiations have been a disaster.
The RC has moved to Australia and a couple of weeks out from the proposed, but not agreed to yet, date the Wallabies are threatening to not come to NZ.

He should be grateful he is getting any help from the government because his job is probably more at risk over this than Jacinda’s.

The squad stuff has got mixed in with the test thread, but this belongs here. Common sense stuff from Foster, a start!

    From the above article:

Foster confirmed on a zoom call with New Zealand reporters on Tuesday he’ll likely use the full Sanzaar allotment of 46 players for the championship, partly because of the condensed nature of the programme and partly because border restrictions make flying in replacement players all but impossible.

Foster currently has 35 players in his squad to assemble for the opening two Bledisloe Cup tests against the Wallabies

So that's 11 more players not playing Mitre 10 Cup. It will be interesting to see who'll be added to the squad.

Fuck this 'pulling 46 players out of the NPC for weeks on end' bullshit. Fuck it, and fuck it's mother too.

Don't have time to dig into things, but to me JA bullshitted as to reason NZ didn't get Rugby Champs and was called out by MR. Then she relents and gets BC sorted.

IMO she ought to have shown flexibility all the way through OR stuck to her new 'zero tolerance' guns.

That’s not how i see it. The fact is there WAS a large dose of sanzaar politics involved in the decision to hold it in Aust.
ie. the politics of having the Aust government guarantee the income. There was also the whinging about not being able to prepare enough. That is entirely sanzaar politics.

The other fact is that the NZ govt HAVE been flexible in their arrangements. The fact that the teams are allowed in at all and are allowed to form groups before the 14 days was up is a flexibility many NZ citizens and expats aren’t being offered.

Also the is a massive, massive difference between a team coming from Australia, which is largely on top of the situation and a team where a dozen of the members have already tested positive. So im not sure MR having a whinge was entirely the cause of that change.

Get ready for an ‘who’s that?’ AB team.

Have to take your word for it.

Wasn't really suggesting that MR press comment influenced JA, but I do sense a whiff of double standards, notwithstanding the apparently more trustworthy nature of Oz CV arrangements!

@pakman SA and Arg teams will come from countries (incl NH, and Argentina already have a dozen infected in their squad) with massive levels of infection, so need the tighter restrictions. Oz doesn't, they've been playing and testing the squads in SRAu so are pretty low risk. This Bleds can go ahead due to reduced requirements, RC can't. It's sensible, if very cautious, stuff. But still less severe than what Joe blogs NZ citizen had to do to get home.

We are coming down for the Shield challenge on the weekend of the 18th. Do you think they will move this game to Saturday now that there is an AB test at the same time?
