North vs South

As biased as the selectors
Haha. Here we go again.
Fox - New Plymouth / AKl
Plumtree - Hawera / Welly
Foster - Putararu / WaikatoWho exactly are they biased for or against? Against the south I suppose? If they don't pick your favourites (from your biased point of view) are they the biased ones?
On the other hand they might be looking to find the best players so that their team wins? (ABs not North / South). Who would have thought that!
They might also want to see some guys play again and know what they get from others?I really don't understand why any selector would deliberately undermine their own team.
Actually Fox is from Putaruru (note spelling), well Waotu really.
Apropos to nothing when I was secretary of the Putaruru Cricket Club I came across an old score book for kids cricket and some bloke called G Fox seemed to score all the runs.
Wayne Smith also from Waotu/Putaruru (flatted with his cousin, well second cousin). NZ's first five factory apparently.

Something odd there with the Chiefs.
Trask a shining light though.
Potential upside.
Not from Putaruru though.
-
One of the biggest bolters is Alex Fidow. We did not see his usual barnstorming runs this year, maybe because he has lost a few kgs, and thus some of his kinetic energy. Maybe he selectors think he has a better potential than Mafileo who is a better scrummager but lacks mobility.
-
It will be interesting who will the benched hooker for the SI : Coltman or Makalio ? The latter will be worth a look IMO.

@mariner4life said in North vs South:
my main takeaway from the squad naming is
our depth isn't great. There are a lot of guys in those two groups who won't ever realistically be pushing for Test level.
Part of the problem is the selection criteria. If it was a straight Possibles/Probables match, the depth would look better because everyone in serious contention would get a proper shot. I think you also look at, say, the South backrow and, at first glance, think "there's no way Prinsep is the second best 8 in the country", before realising that there's three better 8s in the North squad and another one who misses the match because he only qualifies for the North. Guys like Prinsep get nowhere near this match if its Poss/Prob.

South should fuck Ennor off to the bench and start Tomkinson at 12, Goodhue to his rightful place.
Goodhue to 13 definitely. Havili to 12?

Safe to say that's about a 0% chance of happening.

@NateHill74 don't worry about being rude, fuck the jafas they put us back into a state of lockdown.
-
-
@Tim ok after watching that and looking back on the season, South 10-15 I'd like to see:
Mo'unga
Bridge
Barrett
Goodhue
Ennor
JordanI think Jordie is pretty much nailed on at 15, however the way he's played this year I can now see a leadership and style that could well see him successful in the midfield - he runs a game and his temperament has now caught up with his skills and vision. Solid, accurate defender too. Show us what ya can do at 12.
-
@Yeetyaah said in North vs South:
@Bones wrong, Goodhue is a 12 now.
In all seriousness I agree, Ennor
has the pace ofis a winger and Jordan has been far better at FB than wing. -
Absolute joke that the Crusaders top halfback is not in the north’s team and the Chiefs reserve half back is. Foster is a complete and utter muppet.
-
-
So if it’s moved to Welly, no AKLers, unless they only start training on Weds (first day our of Level 3 as it stands)
That’ll make the teams a bit different!

Could well be that an AB squad has Ioane, Goodhue and ALB as midfielders. That allows some good flexibility with the two senior midfielders being adept in both positions
-
@Machpants delay the game.
-
I wonder if they might look at playing it mid-week if they were to delay it.
There's not going to be any fans in the stands anyway and that way your less disruptive to upcoming Mitre 10 Cup.
-
-
@Machpants This is more important.

@Machpants This is more important.
How so? This is a nothing game with no meaning to it. Who cares if North or South win?
-
@Hooroo agreed, its an exhibition game with a couple of match ups the selectors might be interesting in
-
@Tim said in North vs South:
@Hooroo It might be the only NZ rep rugby we get this year. A lot more important than some players being available for NPC training.
I disagree. I'm no fan of NPC nowadays but would watch a Waikato game before this mish mash of players. They may as well split them alphabetically and call it the "Real Neat Rugby Match"
-
BTW, the Mitre 10 Cup isn't scheduled to start until the 11th, so there's plenty of time.
-
@Tim said in North vs South:
@Hooroo You don't even watch Waikato games, as you've claimed several times in the past.
Which highlights how little this mickey mouse game means.
-
sad i seem to be in a minority, i still love the NPC....the results not so much...but its cool seeing the connections between First XV -> Club -> NPC
-

First XV -> Club -> NPC
that only happens in the shit teams like ours. The good teams like @Chris-B 's mob and the Cantabs just buy in who they want
-
@Tim said in North vs South:
@Hooroo To an outlier.
Apart from the tragics on here, I don't know anyone that is looking forward to it.
Next time they should do it on the common colours of Jerseys a player played his 10th local representative club game for.
EDIT: and to make it even more micky mouse, Aucklanders can't play in it as it stands curently.
-
@Hooroo in all seriousness, if the Auckland players aren't able to participate, then call it off.

To even consider playing it without them shows how meaningless it is.

Can't, NPC.
OOOps! There's the circle!
-
The game also needs to be played in front of a crowd as one of the main reasons for having a NI vs SI game was to generate income for NZR. So even if the game is moved to Wellington they need to be at L1.

Is the NPC starting on time with the lockdown anyway? I'm assuming the lockdown will be extended (due to incompetance)
