Old mate at #8 is the luckiest bloke in NZ right now

You're right, you really don't remember anything from the first 7 rounds.

TBF he did say "right now" so other cliches like "only as good as your last game" might be relevant.

“He has had this issue with his back in terms of it tightening up, so we are probably going to get it seen to,’’ Gatland said when he named his team on Thursday.

“It doesn’t seem to come right, and it just flares up again. Unfortunately on Tuesday he felt good, and he has done a bit of contact, and it has just tightened up a bit.

“Whether it is a disc issue that he needs to see someone about, and whether he needs an injection? He just needs to get that right. We are not taking any risks with him.’’’

I expected Pierce to get a seat on the bench but he is unlucky again. He was very good for the Blues during their tour to South Africa and I thought he had cemented his place. He offers more than GCT IMO.

The bad news for the Blues is they have lost Tom Robinson, something of a rock in their pack, for a number of weeks after the highly-promising loose forward suffered cartilage damage to his knee in the 30-20 victory over the Hurricanes at Eden Park.

The Blues also lost Blake Gibson to a minor hamstring injury in that opening match, forcing a major loose forward reshuffle for the Chiefs that sees three-test All Black Dalton Papalii promoted to start at openside - though there were nerves as he left training with ice on his shin - and American international Tony Lamborn come onto the bench.

@Tim poor old Blues, losing 2 loose forwards in one blow and having to replace them with test players and shouldabeen test players.

@cgrant I'd have him ahead of Goodhue usually but Goodhue had one of his better games on the weekend so deserves another go. Cowley Tuioti is more physical than Goodhue and offers more coming off the bench.

The Blues should walk this game.

Ardron must be unavailable due to his French contract as he isn't listed as injured, unlike all the other locks. Vaa’I and Ah Kuoi have a solitary SR start between them and have played less than 10 SR games combined. Thomson would be the locking cover as he is taller than Jacobson.

TTT pays for his form on the bench last weekend. 🤣

I'm looking forward to a live game again though.

In KP's tipping, I tipped the Blues but just before submission I tipped the Chiefs as I can't bring myself to enjoy a blues win over the chiefs..

This is why I can't be in tipping comps. The Magpies could be playing the Crusaders and I'd still tip the Magpies.

Chiefs are correctly favourites at home. Blues still have a good chance of course. But a big crowd and greater involvement from refs helps the home team a lot

It'd be the other way around if this was at Eden Park.

This will be a mahoosive game. Blues ability to win on the road tested against a team battling to stay in the contest.

It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs respond to the law interpretation amendments. Especially if the refereeing is closer to Sunday's match than Saturday's.

    I'm super excited again.

Refereeing is fine as long as they are consistent. Side entry gets nailed, jacklers with the rights get rewarded, fast support play gets rewarded. Basically apply the goddamn laws referees!
