@Stargazer fair enough. Ill caveat by saying 'from what we know' they've been right dicks. Maybe they are angels behind the scenes. Doubt it.
Or maybe the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

If NZR are dicks what part of the anatomy is this McLennan bloke?

@taniwharugby I've had a look at the corresponding story over on SMH (https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/leaked-meeting-minutes-show-nz-agreed-to-six-week-rugby-championship-20200930-p560r0.html) and there's no linki or quote of these minutes. That's before we acknowledge that you can write anything in minutes...
-
@antipodean yeah I thought it odd they claimed they were 'leaked' but not actually showing them, maybe the Journo has decided to protect thier source by not publishing them...
as if!
I think the 1st article is more important in the cotext of what is going on though
-
so have any players come out and publicly stated they arent happy and want to pull out?
-
@taniwharugby No. In fact, Foster told them not to worry about it at this stage.
I refused to read the article when I saw the clickbait title. A slow sports news day.
-
@taniwharugby Surprised it wasn't Bidwell.
-
ABs are saying they are thinking about it, but nothing in stone so no worry - day by day. Chance of Boks making it (therefore games finish early)? Chance of NZ/Oz bubble (therefore no Q)? lots of variables.
One thing NZR has said, that dosn;t make them liook like fluffybunnies - what's done is done, we're not doing word games, lets just plan and hope for the best.
-
@Bovidae Same, I didn't want to read it. But I've read a long apology from a journo to Richie Mo'unga a week or so ago on Twitter, after he claimed that Mo'unga (and other players) didn't want to go to Australia to play the TRC. Mo'unga had set him straight (saying he did want to go to Australia and hadn't said anything to suggest he didn't want to) and the journo admitted to not checking with the players and only said things (it was a radio journo) based on rumours. At least, this journo was decent enough to admit his mistake and apologise.
This is no doubt similar. I always wonder how they go from "players are surprised by the schedule" to "players don't want to play ..." without actually talking to players.

However, speaking on the Mike Hosking Breakfast this morning, New Zealand Rugby Players Association boss Rob Nichol said the date of the reported minutes didn't lineup.
"All the information we have is no they didn't [agree to it]," Nicol said. "The minutes story was an interesting one because our information show there wasn't even a meeting on that date and no ones seen any minutes.
"There's some real irony in this because what we've learnt is exactly the same time that Sanzaar management put out a press release effectively changing the draw to show our last game on the 12th of December, the broadcasters themselves had circulated a draw that showed the last game on the 5th of December and all approved it," he said. "So we've just got a whole lot of questions because it's our players and team management who are going to be asked to go through this and until we get some transparency then we're not going to be committing to anything."

@Tim I did find the SMH article to be a little fishy, especially the timing of it. It came out almost immediately after Hamish McLennan appeared on The Breakdown and spoke about the minutes. Perhaps more evidence that RA wants to play this out in the media.

Personally after the early fuck you we sent to Australia via the Aratipu report and we all heard the fall out at the time in the media, does anyone really expect anything less as a reply from Australia? I think NZ rugby were incredibly naive if they believed that could be treated as a stand alone issue. If any nation was going to react with "revenge is a dish best served with a side of fuck you" , then they picked the right opponent.
Unfortunate mess but we are going have to work with the dick

Absolutely.
We can't play all innocent and woe is me when we sent them a two fingered salute
EDIT: In fact, it would have been tremendously weak of them to not come out with all this bluster. Getting the Rugby Championship was a huge gift. There would have had some beers and laughs over that one.
