All Blacks Tests 2020

In the Herald's Paywall - more rumours
Rugby bosses are set to meet tonight on if and where this year's Rugby Championship will take place. Should the tournament be called off, New Zealand could end up playing the best test schedule in the professional era, writes Gregor Paul. One more giant, potentially irreparable crack may appear in the Sanzaar alliance tomorrow morning if the 2020 Rugby Championship is canned overnight, paving the way for South Africa to conduct an old-fashioned three-test tour of New Zealand.
The All Blacks may also end up playing a test against Japan if it is agreed the Rugby Championship is going to be too difficult to stage this year and with the Bledisloe Cup also a near certainty to progress regardless of what else happens, New Zealand could host six tests before Christmas in what might be one of the best schedules created in the professional age.
New Zealand Rugby has been building contingency scenarios to ensure the All Blacks still have a meaningful test programme this year should the Rugby Championship not go ahead.
Broadcast and sponsorship contracts are locked into the Rugby Championship so if it is axed, NZR needs to have a way to ensure it is providing stakeholders with alternative content around which they can leverage their investment.
The preference remains to play a full Rugby Championship given the contractual obligation to do so, but the contingency, which could see the All Blacks play two Bledisloe Cup tests, three against the Boks and one against Japan in New Zealand, is starting to stack as more attractive to fans and stakeholders, while it also comes with a lower number of practical and logistic complications.

Interesting.

It will be a stunning coup by the Aussie government if they pinch the Rugby Championship.
I think they don't care.
RA would. Annastacia Palaszczuk might. Feds ... yeah nah.

Wow, that would be awesome.
I had been droning on that they should invite Wallabies for a tour, with midweeks. As logisitically easier than a 4 way comp that is likely to fall over.
Never thought about the Boks.
Will need to be in the special mammoth 5 week international window, though. trouble to get euro based Boks to play otherwise.

Blow for New Zealand as Australia pinch Rugby Championship:
Australia is expected to be announced as this year's Rugby Championships hosts. The Herald has been told that Australia has pinched the four nation tournament from New Zealand and it will be hosted from November 7.
Sanzaar will make an official announcement on Friday afternoon.
Australia is believed to have secured the tournament on the basis of having superior quarantine regulations in regards to allowing teams to train while in isolation.
Australian federal and state governments are also thought to have stumped up to lure the tournament away from New Zealand.
Following three months of detailed planning difficulties negotiating with the New Zealand Government around strict quarantine regulations for visiting teams had left NZ Rugby frustrated.
The Herald had previously been told that if Australia hosts the Rugby Championship, the first two Bledisloe Cup matches will be pushed back one week and staged on October 17 and 24, likely to be in Auckland and Wellington.
The All Blacks would then venture to Australia for the Rugby Championship.

this is a pipedream surely.
considering the bullshit with moving between states at the moment, surely bringing overseas football teams and granting them movement would be political suicide.
Feds i guess can claim they are doing their bit to restore normalcy, and it's the States' fault.
If the ABs are allowed in to Qld, and people can't see their dying dad, i would imagine public sentiment would move pretty sharply

makes sense, they are the most open.
are there enough football stadiums to cater for the NRL and the rugby?

@mariner4life NRL will be finished by then (Grand Final 25 Oct)

We need to know all the facts and what NZR was proposing (re: quarantine locations and plans for the 3 international teams).
Problem is NZ Govt are not keen on the bubbles in quarantine being big. Especially as some squads will be coming from multiple countries. So unless the Govt (well health experts within govt/health service) are flexible on that, NZ is a no go. If we could gaurantee full crowds, they might’ve gone for it. But we’ve seen that’s not going to happen.
Hopefully I can catch the wallas games, at least

Ok so it won't be about quarantine if we dint get it, more likely financial kick backs from Oz
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she would be “deeply disappointed” if the reports that New Zealand lost the bid to host the Rugby Championship were true.
“As I understand there hasn’t been any official announcement from Sanzaar on their decision however, if that is the outcome then I would be deeply disappointed. We put in a huge amount of effort into that bid, the tournament and even the players, even creating a regime where they could be playing within three days of arrival.
“If the results don’t go our way it would be a result of Sanzaar politics”
“The arrangements we proposed included training while in quarantine, we worked very hard with health and the tournament organisation to make sure we looked after people’s health and didn’t jeopardise the tournament. It did mean that they’d be able to train within three days.
Ardern rejected claims our facilities would not allow us to host the tournament.
“NZ has very successfully hosted tournaments of this nature on a larger scale before. I have every confidence that the facilities we were proposing were up to scratch and the ability to play within three days of arrival was an important part of that pitch.” -
@Machpants given Aus intend having fans there, we cant and are unlikely to drop levels anytime soon, I'd say that is a huge factor.
