Chiefs v Crusaders (Round 2)

Bugger! Well done Chiefs! Was that an old "How's your father?" from a wily old coach to a up and coming pretender? Time will tell I suppose.
On display were pivots from both teams that clearly are well ahead of the Clan's Ioane for any AB role. Havili needs to eliminate some silly errors though. -

@mariner4life Exactly, Todd was absolute bin juice at test level. He was extremely lucky that Cane was injured and Hansen was an idiot.

Wainui is never going to be a superstar but I really like the things he does for the chiefs. They have enough firepower to keep a glue player on the wing.

Yeah chiefs fans often bemoan the fact he's selected, say he's too slow, a bad player. For someone that bad he plays bloody well and for someone that slow it never seems to be a problem on the field. I'd be bloody happy with him on the right wing for the Landers.

Amazing to see the difference one of the best coaches in the world is making to the Chiefs.
Biggest difference has been in the defence IMO. The style has changed. Off the back of this they aren’t continually playing frantic rugby.
Cruden has been fantastic. The odd error but very deliberate and determined.
Very happy to see Cane back to his best, even in an unfamiliar position -

I agree with you. Wainui is not the fastest wing nor the most brillant, but everything he does is good and sound. No brain fades nor silly options.

I would add their work at the breakdown as well, and I am not just talking about the turnovers or penalties. The Chiefs were a pain in the arse all night at the ruck, slowing the Crusader ball down and frustrating the hell out of them.

I was listening via Sports Ears and Gardner was very vocal, particularly about Crusaders' offsides and taking players out in the lineout, Williams hardly said a thing.

Classic TSF banter after a Crusaders loss.
I was really happy with that result after the start, and for the second week in a row the Chiefs dominated the 2nd half on the scoreboard. The wind was very gusty so was worth more than 4 pts, probably 12-15 pts.
Still plenty to work on, particularly the lineout, with 2 short-arse locks. Slater's throwing hasn't improved since when I watched him in 1st XV rugby.
It sounds like Jacobson isn't far away and others got through games in the weekend.

That will change when they get some players back from injury. Jacobson is a very good lineout option and will provide more balance to the loose forward trio and you have Allardice and McWhannell as specialist locks.
