Google said the logs are showing a dual-NAT issue between the Google master (which is a router) and my modem/router (Fritz!Box 7490 connecting the VDSL).
I'm not sure that is the case - the router is operating a different subnet to the Mesh units to start with, and the Master unit still supplies perfectly good wifi to the outside world. Therefore the NAT should never cross over.
Anyway I just power off everything and power it back on, sorted in under 5 minutes. Small price to pay for great in-house connection.
Apparently our suburb is getting Fibre soon. The good news there is I can keep the modem I've got. Quite like the Fritz.

Like having a motorway nearby with a single track dirt road leading to it.
Correct - VDSL. Which in my bro-in-law's case means he can get 95/40 but I get 25/7.
Cos you still have a copper feeder to the node and copper is so 1900s.

At the end of last week, TPG Telecom announced it had extended its fibre network in regional areas and was able to offer businesses connectivity at speeds greater than 250Mbps. Beginning at AU$384 a month including GST for the 250Mbps plan, the telco is also offering 400Mbps for AU$440 a month, and 1Gbps for AU$880 a month.
WTAF!
80 NZ Pesos for giga plans to households here with 3giga plans about to be rolled out.
1/10th of that price.

It's fucking great. We don't appear to be on the NBN plan any time in the future. Also Telstra have approx zero fucks to give about the copper network any more, so i have the worst of both worlds
The best satellite solution is like 200 a month.

average. this morning worse than the wifi. It's really weird. We're tucked in to the base of the mountains which fucks up the signal at times.

Because it is a captive market in the regions.
And I wouldn't trust TPG to send me porn, so fuck all of that. Everyone promises "business grade" support, including Telstra, but at the end of the day, the same backhaul is used for everything, so you might as well buy consumer grade and risk it.
Besides videoconferencing - which is well compressed anyway and doesn't need more than 100mbps - rural business won't benefit from much more.

Actually, funny story about that: Telstra 4G is almost nonexistent around here, and particularly my house because of the steel roof (front step not much better). I live 32km as the crow flies from the centre of the biggest CBD in Australia, and don't have anything like a mountain in the way of the nearest tower.
In any case, my ISP swapped from Optus to Telstra. Good price so I went with it.

Dropped my ISP after many years together, and went to another mob. Optus MVNO, based onshore, price versus data is superb. They also support Wifi Calling now which makes life much easier under the colourbond roof. That was about 4 months ago.
Last week I get a knock on the door. Nice young lady said she was from a TV production company* and said they were looking for residential shooting locations for a Telstra ad. I chuckled and said "no thanks" partly because they needed to use a room of the house for the child stars to change in, and also because FUCK Telstra.
It just made me laugh: the fact that they were shooting a Telstra ad in a location with no Telstra coverage.
*I mentioned I had a fair bit of experience with TV production, but spared her the detail of my time as the Tesla Powerwall poster boy

I don't and at an educated guess it will be closer to the end of this decade than the start of it before I will get it. And I pay $100 a month for the privilege. For that I can thank Rudd, Conroy and Turnbull. Fuckwits the lot of them.

$499 setup including dish, and ~$139 per month for median 113mbps (latency 20ms+) means it beats the shit out of most offerings in small rural Australia, that's for sure.
Early FTTP centres like Armidale (6 hours north of Sydney) have been enjoying FTTP for nearly 8 years now.

Crazy that you could only get 23/5 in your area so no wonder that someone stepped in with a wireless solution. That's what @NTA is missing.Similar thing down in the Queenstown basin. Lots of lifestyle blocks that aren't getting fibre in the govt rollout so a company has come in with a 40/40 wireless product that runs from Coronet Peak. Not too many signal shadows from there and the symmetrical product suits the at home business needs of many for uploads. Not sure if they have plans to boost speeds past that. Your experience shows that it is technically possible but I guess it is a cost layout thing for the company.

To be fair, I (presumably) could have got faster speeds if I'd paid for them. I paid for 50mbps to get my 25, I assume I could have gotten 50mbps by paying for 100...
