Kane has the luxury of being surrounded by half a dozen of our best ever players. Paddles could never say the same thing

After Paddles rolled them in the first innings Crowe got 188 so they at least had one world class player in each discipline.
I'll take our all-time greats however we get them but Crowe and Paddles were odd ducks for sure and I'm sure their birth certificates needed to be checked on multiple occasions to make sure they weren't born the other side of the ditch (SRH more than Crowe), but it seemed to work for them.
Kane seems to be cut from a different cloth. Whatever cloth they have going in the bay with Peter Burling and Sam Cane.

Some interesting stats here, e.g. Taylor's average is better against Aussie.

How much is that due to his 290 from his last game in Perth though?
If you remove any players best performances their averages suddenly look a bit... average. Unless they're just killing it every time they play (I.E Bradman) . That was some innings, he deserves to get a boost from it. If he can play even half as well this time we'll be right in the game.

By the same token, does he get to remove his worst performance? (Although I think that would not have that great an effect ... )

Is there an update on injuries for Trent and CDG?
and Ross Taylor now as well

This is eeirly starting to feel like the 2004 England Tour... so much hype and a few narrow injury misses.
That's been in the back of my mind as the injury list grew. Too scarred from the 90s/early 00s, plus it's the Canary Yellows in their own backyard... and yet the sense of it being 85/86 all over again also sits there optimistically 😊

Interesting build up in Oz for this series.
Two big spreads in the Sunday Tele and multimedia is pumping out the message to the public they don’t realise how good this Kiwi team is unless you start crunching numbers.
Usually not many Aussies care about how the Black Caps are performing unless they play Australia so they are oblivious of some of the marvellous wins we have conjured up in the last three years and their circumstances.
It’s a very tough ask playing pink ball at Perth’s new stadium as the surface will be a bit of an unknown beast and especially with Oz having played their last test under lights and no warm up game for the Good Guys.
Not too concerned with injuries as they’ll only play Trent if they reckon he’s got enough overs in him and why not debut your most exciting new young bowler to Test Cricket in Perth in a very new stadium! Rossco and CdG will fine!!
Not making any predictions until after the first session once I’ve seen the pitch and got the vibe.
This is the big one guys beating Oz in Oz and we have a squad with genuine depth and three (3) tests to do it in.
And the betting odds are so much better than the AB’s 🤓
