@Snowy Three more tests and we'll have Devon Conway - and Will Young should be back playing by then as well!
There are also two tests in Bangladesh later this year which I don't think he will eligible for yet.
-
@LABCAT I skimmed through what I could find of our future schedule and didn't see any tests after India - but, you could well be right.
In any case, Conway becomes eligible for NZ in September...
...and hopefully we can scrape past the Bangles without him!

@Rapido, who are the next tier bats you rate?
Any of Young, Seiffert, Phillips- I wouldn't bat an eyelid if they had to play a test next week. Would rate the chances of each to be 30+ ave career batsmen. Phillips with least certainty due to his less orthodox technique. Rate Ravindra to be better than all above but wouldn't be ready yet.

Add those above to the other under age of 30 batsmen ; Williamson, Latham, Nicholls, Blundell. Plus young Finn Allen and the new saffa Conway. I wouldn't be concerned about the next 5 years of test batting.
Reminds me of 5 or 6 years ago in the bowling department where we had mid and young 20s bowlers all coming through or reaching their peak: Southee, Boult, Wagner, Bracewell , McClenaghan, Henry, Milne, Bennett. Plus reasons to be optimistic if you followed domestics with talent like Ferguson , Wheeler and Duffy etc. In retrospect, I guess you could say Bracewell was few years into decline already by then.

What about bowlers on the horizon?

Not many.
Jamieson could work. Only uncapped player I'd have some confidence in if he had to play a test next week. But we'll have to find out if he has something to go with his height.
Ben Sears is most promising bowler out there
Of others - Duffy hasn't progressed. Collapses in his action. Nathan Smith's bowling also isnt where I'd want it to be after 4 year of senior domestics, but he is still promising , especially as his batting is quality.
That's it. Just Sears and Jamieson of players with the talent on any sort of 'curve' I'd be happy with.

Ludick is a prospect.

Flu like symptoms sounds like a good excuse to me....

-
Mitchell Santner has been ruled out with illness and is at the hotel. Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls have both missed training with illness in the lead up. They have had a net this morning but neither look well. A call will be made at the toss
Phillips is going to debut. Sounds like 2 spinners with Astle and Sommerville.
-
9.40am Andrew McGlashan: "Santner has been ruled out, expecting Astle to play...looks like two spinners with Somerville" Gary Stead is now addressing the group as is Ross Taylor. Glenn Phillips has just been given his first Black Cap from Ross Taylor. He will debut.
Tom Latham is going to captain the team. He has just been handed his black blazer from Taylor! Williamson is out.
On cricinfo.......

Ummm...
9.50am There is a report from the ground that New Zealand will make five changes. Todd Astle, Will Somerville, Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry come in for sure. Jeet Raval may also play. Looks like Williamson, Nicholls, Santner, Southee and Boult are out for sure.
