just following up on @shark and his little victimhood thing
part of what makes this finals series so frikken great is that nearly every team has serious question marks around their ability in finals
The Dees played one big final in living memory and got fucking flogged
Geelong are perennial Prelim-finalists who usually lose it (last year they waited an extra week to surrender meekly)
Port have whimpered out the last few times
Brisbane have finished top 2 the last couple of years, first year out in straight sets, last year out in the prelim (despite a few advantages)
The Bulldogs play a style not many thing can actually win finals (and their flag is often looked at as an aberration)
Sydney are the only really finals credentialed club there
GWS made one GF and got flogged, otherwise they had a run of meek exits
Lol at Essendon. The lack of a Richmond/Hawthorn/West Coast "you know these blokes will show up" type club makes it even more fun. Someone is bucking a steroptype this year
My guess is Melbourne. The only club i hope doesn't is Geelong. Fuck Geelong.
-
the other good thing about this finals series...games in tassie...another chance for the locals to show if the6 will turn up for a local team
up the bloods

@mariner4life @mariner4life you've got that all kinds of wrong. I'm not even sure how you've managed to take my comments that way.
The Dees have been written off, like WRITTEN OFF multiple times this year after a loss, as if they'd lost a bunch in a row. Pundits and posters have been really quick to promote everyone from Port to Brisbane, Geelong to the Dogs and even Richmond at one stage as more likely to win the flag. There hasn't been a lot of balance to it.
I know better than ANYONE on here our history over the last 20 years so no-one need remind me of the litany of floggings, the desperately poor years and that fucking qualifying final loss to WC in 2018 followed by two more mediocre to poor years. Blah blah fucking blah.
But we've been really good throughout 2021. We've stumbled a couple of times (that first loss to Adelaide a shining example) but we won 10 in a row, have beaten a lot of other contenders and can't even find places in game day squads for Nate Jones and Sam Weiderman. The character shown by this side at times has been immense, with Saturday night the pick in a tense situation. Our style of football has been a beautiful thing to watch and off the ball we've been streets ahead. Yet the experts and some posters seem intent on writing us off at every opportunity.
Credit where credit is due.

incredible run that had to come to an end (and 4 years seems to be pretty close to the usual time it does). Will play finals next year again for sure, but definitely back to the pack

Yes the amount of times in the first half of the season you'd hear "the Tigers are back!"

2nd to last game where GWS were hammering them, and all teh 7 commentators could go on with "you can never count the Tigers out" and "we've seen this champion team come back from here" like it was still 2020

@mariner4life Yeah 9.30 NZT. Sky have a TBC vs TBC game on in that slot which will be it so I'll avoid getting too hooned and attempt to stay awake for the whole game. In reality I'll fall asleep at halftime and wake up feeling like a cat shit in my mouth around 1am and crawl into bed with the dry horrors either happy, or thankful we get a second crack.

Dees out in straight sets it is

@mariner4life The Lions worry me but I'm oddly confident that if we were to drop this first game due to having the jitters or something stupid fucked, we'll still win the flag. In a way that would mirror our regular season. In that we'll be written off then come back.

Not sure if this should go in sports memes…coronavirus memes…or here
@booboo the crowd made the grand final in 2017 so it hasn’t been a huge dry spell

i hope this club is dogshit forever
-
All Australian side named last night, and as per every year, it's a joke

@shark the average number of goals per team per game is down from the hey day of Lockett, Dunstall. Ablett, Salmon etc when a “bag of goals” was 8+, not the 3 or 4 they talk of these days.
The big difference over the last decade is the spread of goals in a team is far greater given the defensive structures employed. The proportion of goals that come from midfielders is higher than those 80s and 90s.

I was going to ask why the tallies are so much lower than the 100s being posted in the 80s and 90s. So thanks for that. But 58 is still very low.
