incredible run that had to come to an end (and 4 years seems to be pretty close to the usual time it does). Will play finals next year again for sure, but definitely back to the pack

Yes the amount of times in the first half of the season you'd hear "the Tigers are back!"

now that's a fair comment!!

2nd to last game where GWS were hammering them, and all teh 7 commentators could go on with "you can never count the Tigers out" and "we've seen this champion team come back from here" like it was still 2020

@mariner4life Yeah 9.30 NZT. Sky have a TBC vs TBC game on in that slot which will be it so I'll avoid getting too hooned and attempt to stay awake for the whole game. In reality I'll fall asleep at halftime and wake up feeling like a cat shit in my mouth around 1am and crawl into bed with the dry horrors either happy, or thankful we get a second crack.

Dees out in straight sets it is

@mariner4life The Lions worry me but I'm oddly confident that if we were to drop this first game due to having the jitters or something stupid fucked, we'll still win the flag. In a way that would mirror our regular season. In that we'll be written off then come back.

Not sure if this should go in sports memes…coronavirus memes…or here
@booboo the crowd made the grand final in 2017 so it hasn’t been a huge dry spell

The quoted daily cutoff is 8PM the night before. Nearly 16k total cases in this outbreak since June.
this didn't age well

Carlton make Teague wait 4 days
and then sack him
i hope this club is dogshit forever
-
All Australian side named last night, and as per every year, it's a joke

@shark the average number of goals per team per game is down from the hey day of Lockett, Dunstall. Ablett, Salmon etc when a “bag of goals” was 8+, not the 3 or 4 they talk of these days.
The big difference over the last decade is the spread of goals in a team is far greater given the defensive structures employed. The proportion of goals that come from midfielders is higher than those 80s and 90s.

I was going to ask why the tallies are so much lower than the 100s being posted in the 80s and 90s. So thanks for that. But 58 is still very low.

Meanwhile, Port give Geelong a rogering in their qualifying final. I only saw the second quarter which as it turned out was the winning of the game as PA pulled away decisively and their rabid fans put on even more of a show. Bloody entertaining.
They'd have to be the second roughest group of fans after Collingwood (and I'm not forgetting about Dogs fans here either). I don't say that just because of the crowd behaviour. I dated a girl in Melbourne who was a Port girl through and through, even having connections to Warren Tredrea. She was hot but a massive bogan at heart. Plus I think the club represents some fairly socio economically challenged areas of Adelaide, such as Port Adelaide itself, and Elizabeth / South Elizabeth. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
-
@shark I went to a port Richmond game at Adelaide oval once,
Yeah they are feral alright ,Richmond get a reputation for being feral , but I think it’s more they have a large blue collar supporter base , but I think their overall behaviour is mild compared to port .
The stories of people having their cars trashed at Adelaide oval if they have Vic number plates is true .
-
A Geelong supporting mate said through the week I reckon we will win it this year with Richmond our bogey team in finals not there ,
Interesting it was port who are probably the closest to Richmond in game style of the teams in contention, beat then in a final when the heat went up , had a similar look about it as they wilted
-
Lol fuck off Geelong you grubby flogs
Port's ball movement at times last night was incredible, they hunted down Geelong players, turned it over, then with some incredible handballs and run got it out of congestion and flew up the field. Boak is massively underrated I reckon.
Charlie Dixon is my favourite non-lions player in the comp. Big angry dude with a beard scowling at everyone and crashing packs. Also his missus is a fucking smoke show.
What does Scott want changed in the AFL after this loss?
-
@shark Port has always been seen as the club that represented the ‘working class’ dating back to its SANFL days and then into the AFL as a contrast to the Crows.
There are some rough areas in Port Adelaide/ Enfield. But some areas that have gentrified somewhat. Unemployment has tended to be higher there compounded when Holden shut their Elizabeth plant.
About 10 years ago a mate of mine who is a Collingwood supporter drove to Adelaide for a Port v Pies game and he genuinely feared for his life. And that’s something coming from a Pies supporter!
-
@mariner4life I think you wrote Charlie Dixon, when you meant to write Max Gawn.
