All Black Coach - Ian Foster

@mariner4life That's the spirit!
If AIG want us they're going to have to pay - and in hard currency - cash, small used bills!
I'm fleshing out the manifesto.
I think the whole culture should be driven by accountability - and the philosophy that, "It's the players who play the game".

how easy will post game pressers be?
Could adopt the Movie thread scoring.
"I'd rate him 3.5 annoying halfbacks out of 5 showponying hookers" or shorthand 3.5 Marshalls / 5 Fitzy's.

Some candidates might only be interested in being the head coach at this stage of their career while others could be prepared to park their ego at the door and look at the bigger picture. Think back to 2003/2004 when Henry assembled a "dream team" with 2 assistants who had previously been the head coach of international teams themselves. If everything falls into place the assistant would be a good chance to succeed the head coach as Hansen did. The big unknown is whether some of the names mentioned in the press could work together because they all have their own personalities and ideas, and we don't really know if there is any history between them.
They're currently saying on Radiosport that an invitation to apply has been sent to 26 coaches - with an implication that they're all New Zealanders (though I might have misinterpreted that bit). Stuff confirming:

As much as I can see that the negatives around Fozzie aren’t nearly as big as some make out and that he may be in a strong place to put together a good coaching unit I am also beginning to think that, given the player rebuilding situation this may also be a good opportunity to refresh the hereditary situation that has developed.
Having continuity is great but eventually it gets more and more difficult to get fresh ideas from the same group.
The last group showed a fixation on beating the rush defence because they wanted to continue an attacking style of their creation. In doing that they gambled on ignoring some key RWC knockout lessons around experienced heads.
Maybe a new dynasty can be created and this is the prime opportunity to start it?
Much depends on the running matesI get that the appointment of a new head coach is now like a package deal and appears to be a key factor in determining a successful applicant.
However I’m not sure it should lend so much weight given when there are changes to an assistant mid-cycle, who is brought in has no bearing on the head coach’s position/contract does it?

26 coaches!
Ian Foster
Scott Robertson
Tony Brown
Dave Rennie
Warren Gatland
The guy who coaches U10s at the local club
Bob the Builder
Maureen Mike's mumCan't think of any more.

I'd be pretty sure expat coaches like Cotter, Haig, Crowley, maybe Penney etc are in that list of 26. But at 26 names, you start to wonder if Hammett and Gibson are there too!
-
I'd think anyone who's coached Super rugby in recent times - as well as various international coaches....
Ian Foster
Warren Gatland
Joe Schmidt
Wayne Smith

Don't think John Mitchell has been approached. The job ad specifically says the NZRU are looking for the best and not a journeyman.
-
so is that coaching panel appointed to ensure Fozzie doesnt just walk it, or just appear that way if he gets the gig?
At this rate, they wont be done by Xmas!!
-
@Machpants Yeah, without doubt some will flag it, or be contractually bound elsewhere - and some might put up their hands for assistant positions.
I reckon if you started trawling through the staff in those European clubs it might throw up quite a few interesting specialist coaches that most casual NZ fans would have forgotten about.

@Chris-B Surprised you missed Andrew Goodman and Shane Christie from your list of potential coaches! Luckily you seem to have done us all a favour by also not including NZ Under 20s Head Coach Mr. Craig Philpott.
They're the team for 2023.
There's a somewhat common theme to my preferred coaching team posted earlier - but, only if you're paying attention!
Jamie Joseph
Leon MacDonald
Clarke Dermody
Kieran Keane
Ceri Evans -
Yeah - be interested to see what sort of list we can collectively compile.
Conrad Smith is with Pau.
Nick Evans at Harlequins.
Bruce Reihana at Bristol.
