Are Brodie Retallick and Sam Whitelock superior locks to Maro Itoje?
I wouldn't pick any English players in a combined ABs/England 15.
These combined team things are rubbish. Two teams with entirely different playing styles and the players selected to go with them. Ben Smith is a case in point. Playing England's way you would jump to have Bender at 15. Playing NZs style he gets left out.
England want their props to be ball carriers, we want ours to get to rucks quickly.etc etc
Easy there fella it was a joke

Taken from Reddit:
England had just 10 minutes and 34 seconds of possession in their #RWC2019 quarter-final against Australia, their lowest amount in a game since Opta have recorded this data (2010)
I admit, sometimes modern rugby just confuses the f*%k out of me.
The way possession and territory stats can flip flop from week to week and not often have any bearing on the result.
I don't know how to begin to analyse the upcoming semifinal when you have a team defying their national sterotype and yet winning so convincingly.
From ESPN stats:
-
That's interesting though. The clear tactic was to let Oz have the ball then suffocate them.
We have done that tactic in the past as well.
I doubt whether England will do the same against us though. I think they will look to hold on to the ball as much as possible.
Now the big question is whether the players have the maturity/ ability to change up styles from one week to another and not get it wrong. England have shown, in recent past, a total inability to think during a game and get bogged down in plans that aren't working. -
Impressive tackling stats from their pack (Most of the misses came from the backs, particularly 10/12/13)
Player Tackles Missed Tackles M Vunipola 20 0 George 18 0 Sinckler 10 1 Itoje 15 0 Lawes 15 0 Curry 17 1 Underhill 20 2 B Vunipola 16 0 -
@Blackheart Japan were a harder quarter-final than Ireland

He's not actually trolling - this is honestly what he thinks as an old school Pom.
Wales undefeated 6N champions and he's still treating them like poor cousins.

The Poms are big, strong lads. They play that style in their Premiership every week. Lapped it up.

Starkly illustrated by his thinking that Beauden is now at fullback "because of goal-kicking". Can only hope that the opposing coaches share this complete lack of strategic analysis, but given it's Eddie I doubt it ....

Vs Italy and the no offiside if it's not a ruck game - you know the rule that mysteriously changed a few weeks later

Against Wales where they went in with a kick and chase strategy which was being gobbled up and run back at them. The just kept doing it over and over and copped some deserved shit.

I hope they kick the back to us this weekend

I was fascinated to see Owens and Schmidt having a long talk before the game last week (with Schmidt clearly trying to get something across, including gestures about tackling or clean outs). I wondered whether, in any way, that then influenced what he looked for at penalty time.
Hansen didn't bother approaching Owens, although might have said hi.
Hansen and Schmidt had a massive talk too. They look like they are pretty friendly.

We get Nigel Owens. Great news...I can live with him not being card happy, even though it saved Ireland several times.
Certainly better than a French alternative. I just hope he insists on England not slowing everything down again. A fast game will suit us.
Saturday weather wise is looking good again.
