@Siam said in RWC: (QF2) All Blacks v "To Be Advised":
The permutations for us to play Japan please?
Anyone?....bueller?....
I've only just twigged to losing bonus points so am in need of info from cleverer people

Basically if Japan wins or draws, we end up playing Ireland.

Basically if Japan wins or draws, we end up playing Ireland.
And if Scotland win:
- by 8+; or
*with a BP; or
- by 1-7 but with 4 tries (Japan not also getting 4 tries).
Then we play Scotland.
If Japan win or draw, or score 2 BPs then we play Ireland.
If Japan loses by less than 7, and Scotland don't get a 4 try BP then we play Japan.
If Japan gets 2 BPs then we play Ireland.
Clear?

Lots of chat on who we'd rather face.
Prefer in order
Scotland
Japan/Ireland (I can't separate)Honestly, if Ireland keep us to 9 points, they deserve to win. Can't see it happening though, our forwards were pants against them last time. In some ways, Japan wiht a strong crowd and nothing to lose could be scarier.

We can talk horses for courses all we like. But at the end of the day it's only Japan, and Ireland got found out by them. Shame on us if we can't beat any or all 3

I do not underestimate the possibility of a ref getting swept up by a noisy home crowd cheering on the cherry blossoms. Iβve heard refs talk about this as being one the most challenging aspects of their job.

@voodoo let me take a stab, AB midfielders and wingers? Who should be on the bench? What is our contingency if we lose three 1st 5s in the game?
-
Well lads....looks like it's us leprachauns against you sheep shaggers hehe!
All joking aside, really looking forward to it. Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and go out fighting. The consensus back home is we'll get thumped and I'm the same. AB's by 15-20 pts.
Let's hope for a great occasion and good banter between the fans π

Welcome to the Fern.
15-20? Conservative approach? I donβt mind that for a first post.

Ahem, Australia has more sheep than us.....

@ACT-Crusader Not really conservative, it's what most fans here expect. We've been poor all year and SA would have been the preferred match up.

Last time we went head to head against Ireland dominated the ABs. This was less than twelve months ago.
Ireland have conceded one try all tournament. Outside of one 20 minute window against the Boks there is limited evidence from the past 12 months that the ABs have the ability to crack this a good rush defence if fit, firing and confident.

They are a shadow of that side. They had recently beaten us on a cold narrow Soldier Field, the win at home (their first after over 100 years of trying) was their pinnacle. Since then their coach has announced he will stand down after the cup, they have been in poor form and lost to Japan, now they will face us in hot humid conditions at a tourney where so far assertive ball playing teams have fared well. I'm not saying they can't or won't win, but they will find it much harder to win at a RWC where their expectations are high, against our boys who Shag has been bringing along for this final challenge of an illustrious career, who knows how to win the cup

My only question after reading that is... would you have any Irishmen in a combined XV?
