Schimdt whinging about the ref. Just cop it mate. You lost to a better team on the day.

No fucking way I ever want Joe Schmidt anywhere near the All Blacks coaching set up after that interview. Totally pathetic and classless.

    Leitch was huge today.

Mafi’s ball running in the first half was huge, but when Leitch came on the intensity went up a gear especially defensively. The team really followed his lead.

Really impressed with the Japanese tight 5 reserves. Those front row reserves really landed their hits.

Massive game coming Japan and Scotland.

Agree, save me typing exactly that.
Thought demotion of Leitch was justified by Mafi first 20, but Leitch was amazing when he cam on.

Good scrum. Yamashita tackling was immense in final 5 to 10 minutes.

It's a childish, unfair thing to say but it's a pity Sexton wasn't playing.

Would have loved to seen his face at the final whistle

Rory Best was on the field which pleases me . Would have liked to see Aki being part of Japan reneacting the love scene from Deliverance on the Irish.

His team looked second rate. That's entirely on him. There's no way they have the mental fortitude to win a quarter final based on that performance. Absolutely dreadful.

If anything the ref allowed the Irish far too much leeway to constantly recycle

Ireland are shite. Scotland are worse. Great chance for Japan and Samoa to be the teams that make it out of Group A.

I'm back in Palmy right now! Haven't seen the game (family shit got in the way), and haven't see Joe since he coached my PNBHS U14 Basketball team c. 1990.

But am disappointed to hear he was whining about the ref, was any of it it justified?

When Japan beat South Africa in 2015, Japan was 13th ranked and South Africa 3rd.

Today, Japan was 10th ranked and Ireland 2nd.

@voodoo thought Gardner managed the game excellent. He allowed it to flow as best as he could and if anything Ireland were lucky to not be penalised more for their tactics at the breakdown.

The offsides that Joe mentioned in his interview were very easy calls for the ref.

    This was more emphatic IMHO

And if Japan hadn't scored YCs would have been waved.

Nah, even if Japan win, they could easily drop a game to Samoa and/or Scotland. But Ireland will beat Samoa and Russia.

Scotland didn't look interested against Ireland and are down a further two first choice players trough injury. Scotland v Russia might be a contest.

Samoa could be the real surprise - if Ireland can't improve on today's performance, I can see Samoa beating them. Ireland looked old and tired...
