Not sure Whitelock can rest against Namibia if both Rettalick and Read do not play. I suppose they could get creative with the second row and back row bench.

Agree, two stints off the bench in four days for Whitelock. Locking combo Frizzell/Patty T for Namibia.

As Luke Whitelock showed they are going to pick the team with no consideration of the skipper and then pick the best available from the starting XV. Cane skippered McCaw off the bench last RWC so won't be an issue this time either.

Donโ€™t know why Ardie doesnโ€™t just get contact lenses like all the others

He's prepping for a poss. Ireland game. Hoping It will make him even more intimidating in the haka apparently

    @rotated

Maybe Coltman to see sometime on the flank could also help with the numbers. I still donโ€™t really understand why Whitelock wouldnโ€™t have started against Canada and got a rest against Namibia. That said it is amazing how small the squads are relative to the games, once you have 3 hookers , 3 halfbacks , 5 props, and an injured player rotation does become pretty difficult.

Yeah, I mentioned that before we announced our squad and everybody was trying to shoehorn in enough players. The 4 day turn arounds make 31 ridiculously small too.

Why isnโ€™t Retallick playing against Namibia? I thought that was the game they were targeting for his return.

Frizell could back up against Namibia given he wonโ€™t be in the side against Italy is my guess.

As @ACT-Crusader says, I am basing that on the assumption BBBR is available in this game, even if on the bench. Frizell can also provide lock cover.

Has there been an update since the squad announcement on Rettalick? Wasn't the prognosis QF hopefully, but still some doubt.

Maybe off the bench against Italy like Read in 2011?

Most importantly, about this game. Poite is the ref and Jonker the TMO. This will be interesting.

@Bovidae Even with those two idiots I think that we will be O.K. I might get a little aggravated though.

Why do we keep getting Poite, Bonkers, Faeces? Where are Owens, Gardner, even Peyper, Pearce or (man this hurts) Barnes. Why do we get getting the two French inspector Clouseaus?

@Snowy Gauzere has the Namibia game (the 3rd French ref in a row) and Pearce (Eng) is the ref in the Italy game.

@Bovidae Not going to take a victim mentality so maybe it will be a good thing if they appoint the idiots in the playoff rounds - at least we will be "adjusted".

in all seriousness though, i thought we all agreed not to trust a single thing that comes out of Steve's mouth at a press conference?

He's quite amusing though. He gets asked about whether Jamie Joseph has put up his hand to be the AB coach and he gets to "...I've got the world record for the most number of losses in a row and the world record for the most number of wins....". (about 9.45 I think)

I thought the last update was QF, didnโ€™t think Namibia was a possibility.

My understanding was the latest was Retallick was targeting the final pool game (Italy).

y'all are forgetting that Lurch isn't a man, he's a creation made of sewn together body parts. It makes for quicker healing when you just sew another shoulder on.

I recall it reported him saying after a pool session it felt much, much better and hence gave confidence that his recovery was ahead of schedule.

Even if he's just back for Italy, I'd expect limited minutes just to get some game time in his legs.

yeah I think he (BBBR) was talking about maybe Namibia, but maybe that was him being optimistic...

I mean the Saffas were saying they wouldnt have been surprised if he came out against them (given they were the carnts that broke him)
