RWC: All Blacks v South Africa (Pool B)

That SCO IRE result has really opened up the draw for us. We've got it as good as anyone in this RWC now we've won the opening game - a nice build into the quarters, then Samoa/Japan/Scotland, and two games to win the thing. Tough - but very very doable now if we can focus.
All other contenders have a hard route, a physical pool generally, and a tough quarter in store. Again - we haven't won it yet, but the cards are at long last falling in our favour.
Finally, I see we're now at $2.30 to win the thing outright on BetFair. SA and ENG at 6s, and then everyone else $10+. I like SA bette rthan that, and think England will be physically exposed by knockout time.

Strongly agree. I was saying how we out-coached them, despite being physically dominated at times. Bloody good work from the coaching team to be not only right tactically/strategically ,but also to have the skills running full noise for the game. Mental prep spot on.

Effectively we out Bokked the Boks. I had predicted a nine point AB victory but I must admit to being very concerned in the last 20, however once we settled it was relatively comfortable.
The Boks don't seem to have the ability to think on the field. It's a trait of theirs. Historically they don't seem to produce sides that can adapt in real time, they need the coach to tell them what to do.
Great game to watch (no streaming issues for me). Pretty happy with that performance - put Brodie back in the engine room and there's not many teams will be able to live with us.
It was a statement of intent. We do have a Plan B and a Plan C too so take your rush defence and your big physical brutes and bring it on.

It's a World Cup. The officials won't do anything until the gold watch is actually on their wrist.

Finally had a chance to watch most of the game again.
I'm impressed with Bridge and Reece on attack, but still not convinced about their effectiveness under the high ball. If they are going to be out first choice wingers, we should expect high kicks all day - they put a few down and it looks an easier route to exploit us that going through us. I note lots of people saying Faf played poorly, but I think that was only execution on some kicks. Watching at the ground they would kick when they ran out of ideas - our defence is very good at maintaining composure, so after 5-6 phases, they'd go high- often getting another chance. It's a big work-on for us, as we'll now likely see plenty. In the mid second half, Reece was out of position quite a few times, and we dropped a couple more, and I was screaming for them to bring on Bender, just to slow down the main danger, because apart from gaining ground and opportunities through kicks, we did very well stopping them
On the other hand, our box kicks and bombs weren't really that good - we only got a payoff when we avoided Kolbe - who was excellent. I could have murdered A Smith for his shitty kick to Kolbe in the second half that led to his break. I was right behind and was flabbergasted he kicked that - we were well set right and finally had a bit of territory. It wasn't the execution, but the rationale, and when he dealt with it well, again, he broke out and we ended up conceding a soft try- at the ground I thought that PSDT was offside coming back, but too bad.
The scrum got a good workout, Nepo looked good except for one scrum and Moody had some trouble - later our bench props performed about as well as can be expected. Locks were good, loosies good, Hlafback kicking needs some work, midfield good (especially ALB) although they barely used SBW - why bring him on and then never put the ball in his hands?
Wings need to improve high ball bomb disposal. Personally, I think that Ioane is still one of our two best wings, but on attack, it's hard to go past the current two, and if Rieko hasn't been putting in the work or is carrying a slight injury, then too bad. Having said that, if I was an opposition coach, I'd be trying the target Cory Jane bomb trick on our current two as neither are half as reliable.
I can't see us making too many changes to that team, Scott Barrett will go to the bench if we get BBBR back, which probably allows Todd to go to the bench.

I thought aside from a couple of early wobbles, that our wingers completely nullified the Springbok's kicking game. Bridge and Reece were both very safe. I know fans can watch the same game and see different things depending on their perception and what they are looking for, but I cannot agree that Reiko Ioane is anywhere near George Bridge when it comes to kick reception skills. It's been one of Bridge's strengths since his career started. Reiko Ioane is brilliant with ball in hand, and is stronger/more powerful, but George Bridge pips him in just about every other skillset.

I thought Bridge played well. Rieko has been off for a while, and the one thing Bridge always gives you is big effort. The guy is into everything. Reece had a few moments of quality that promise magic to come

They only real howler of the match, and I try to watch with both eyes, is the lack of a card for that blatant foul stopping us from scoring a try.
When the whistle went, I expected to ref to be heading to the posts for PT at first

At first watch it looked like the tackler didn't release but on video he actually did - I think ref would have gone to pocket if video ref had confirmed.

@taniwharugby can't remember what point of the game it was but ALB was neck rolled. He got up unhurt but immediately looked at Garces, who saw the whole thing, and nothing happened.

Probably a vibe thing, and my vibe could be wrong when I said George Bridge has a better work rate and Reece has better acceleration.

I love me some post-match grainy still shots with a thick red circle or bright yellow arrow on it. Especially after an AB win.
Makes the victory just that little bit sweeter.

@ACT-Crusader looking at that pic, it looks like PSDT doesnt even have the ball, and looks more like his fist is hitting him, so that makes it doubly, no, triply worserer.
