Super Rugby 2020

@Tim It sucks for the Jaguares and the Sunwolves (if they return to Japan), but I really hope they (SANZAAR/NZR/ARU/SARU etc) come up with an alternative, like NZ, SA and Aussie derbies. Probably no finals or an overall winner at the end, but hopefully entertaining games. It will be without crowds, but at least there will be plenty of people watching the games on tv, which will also be good for the broadcasters and sponsors.
The Súper Liga Americana de Rugby has also been suspended, so the Jaguares and Ceibos can maybe play each other. Only one opponent, but it's better than nothing.
In Japan, all sports seem to have been cancelled, so if the Sunwolves return to Japan, it's all over. If they stay in Australia, maybe they can continue playing against the Aussie teams. Considering most players are foreigners, they may prefer going home though. It wouldn't surprise me at all, if some of the NZ Sunwolves players were on the same plane to NZ as the Crusaders, to beat the deadline on Sunday.
Of course, all of that will be over as soon as players get positive test results or show symptoms.

@Tim Hoping it won't last that long, then.
I can't see how it won't. Isolation requires two weeks and then you'd need to see a decline in new cases to the point health authorities were confident everyone running around hugging each other again wouldn't simply let it go again. Especially as we get deeper into the colder months.
I think I'll cancel my Kayo subscription for the foreseeable future.

@antipodean Yeah, you're probably right.

It is also dependent on other nations getting their shit together and containing the disease. Can't see that happening in 16 days

One News has reported that NZR have created plans for their own 10-week competition, which would consist entirely of New Zealand teams, playing their games behind closed doors.
The teams would face each other twice, with two byes, and All Blacks would not be rested, given they would have already had a break due to the Super Rugby suspension.
The new competition – if it comes into being – would reportedly begin when the Highlanders' self-isolation period ends in two weeks.

This isn't gonna happen. Fucken dreamers at NZR. Surely this speculation was circulating prior to all rugby being suspended??
Might happen. If they play the games on Xbox.
My money is on Rieko.

You've got to plan for it and hope the best. That a tight regime of monitored professionals is enough to pass H&S and Govt judgement. Look at the Nix in Oz. They've been given licence to ignore the 14 day self quarantine, so they must have given a brief on how they will mitigate and minimise any transmission. NZR are banking on the same thing, a tight envirnment that will get signed off. Not saying it will, but NZR are not 'fucken dreamers' but trying to acheive the best for rugby. If it can't be done, then that is life. But if it can, they've got to go for it. Worst thing would be for one of the teams to pick up CV19, that would really throw a spanner in the works. Highlanders or saders, most likely I guess.

@Canes4life They won't come to the Blues. Billy would struggle to make the 23, we have Hoskins at 8 and Akira on the bench!:face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:
